“Now there’s a woman I’d like to get acquainted with,” Austin whistled through his teeth.

But I felt a streak of guilt.

“Maybe we should quit it with the stupid bunny scale,” I suggested, and all eyes locked on me.

“The fuck? Did you bang your head on the ice this morning?” he said. “The bunny scale is almost as old and sacred as the team.”

“Case in point,” I argued.

“It’s only a bit of harmless fun, Holden.”

I found Adams across the room, and anger flared inside me. It was only a bit of harmless fun until somebody got their feelings hurt.

I guess I’d never cared before when engaging in locker room talk with the guys because it didn’t affect me. Most girls knew what they were signing up for when they batted their eyelashes or whispered sweet nothings in a player’s ear. Scoring a Laker was like hitting the jackpot on campus. Even if they secretly hoped to be the one to break the mold.

But when things were personal, it was a different story.

Except, things aren’t personal because Aurora isn’t your girl.

“Shit, she’s coming over here.”

I glanced up right as she arrived at our table. “What can we do for you, beautiful?” Leon drawled.

“Actually, I was hoping to talk to Noah.”

“I’m sorry,” I said, “do I know you?”

“Not yet.” A suggestive smirk played on her lips.

The guys snickered around me, probably anticipating whatever bullshit was about to come out of my mouth. But they were going to be sorely disappointed.

“Sorry, but I’m kind of busy.”

She stepped between my legs and gazed down at me, licking her lips seductively. “I think I can make it worth your while.”

“Maybe another time.”

Confusion flashed over her expression, quickly morphing into disappointment. “Sure. Another time.” She slipped her hand into a pocket and pulled out a slip of paper. “Call me. Anytime.”

I nodded, taking the number from her because what else was there to do when a total knockout offered you her number?

“Have you lost your fucking mind?” Leon stared at me. “When Jessica Rabbit offers herself up on a platter, you take it.”

“I’ve got class.”

“In an hour,” Mase said, watching me with a strange look in his eye.

“I’m not feeling it.” I shrugged.

“Then I’ll take that.” Leon leaned over and snatched the number off me. “When I tell her you’re not interested, I’ll be right there to comfort her.”

“Have at it, man.”

“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?” Austin said. “Because that’s twice now you’ve—”

I dragged my finger across my throat, cutting him with an icy stare.

“What’s this, Holden? You a little off your game?” Ward grinned, and I flipped him off. I might have taken him under my wing since he arrived on campus earlier in the summer. But he was still a rookie—he still had to earn his skates.
