“Fuck yeah.” Austin leaned over to high-five Connor, the two of them grinning. “You going to follow your boy when he gets called up to the pros, El?”

“What kind of question is that, asshole? Of course, she is.”

“Con…” she sighed.

“Uh-oh, do I detect trouble in paradise?”

“Just got to talk her into putting down roots with me.” Connor said with utter conviction.

“That’s just it, though, babe. When you go pro, you won’t have roots.”

“No, but I’ll have money. Lots and lots of money.”

“He’s not wrong, El.”

“Oh, trust me, she knows.”

“Only because you don’t shut up about it.” She rolled her eyes. “You haven’t even graduated yet, and you’ve already spent your signing-on bonus.”

Austin and I raised a brow at Connor, and he spluttered. “In my head. I’ve spent it in my head. Relax, kitten, my mom taught me well.”

Connor was signed with the Flyers. His future was golden. But it was good odds that Austin would go pro too. Same with Aiden, who was already in talks with the Detroit Red Wings.

I’d almost signed on with the New York Rangers in my senior year of high school, but my old man had other ideas, and he ruined everything. It was a complete shit show that had put the final nail in our complicated relationship. We barely spoke after that, and the second graduation rolled around, I was out of there.

I haven’t looked back since.

Timothy Holden was no one to me.

No one.

But no matter how much I told myself that, how much I tried to move on from my past, I couldn’t.

Not until I proved to him and the rest of his family that I was worth something.

That Noah Holden could make it on his own.

CHAPTER 15

AURORA

“So I was thinking…” Harper said over her steaming mug of chai tea. “Maybe you can introduce me to Noah.”

“Seriously? You’d go there after half the female population has already experienced Noah Holden’s… stick?”

“What?” She shrugged. “So long as he’s safe and doesn’t treat me like shit. It’s just sex, Rory.”

Just sex.

People kept saying that. As if I knew what they were talking about. I mean, I knew. I wasn’t completely naïve. But I’d never had just sex.

I’d had sex with my boyfriend—my ex-boyfriend—and then I’d found out he was also having sex with my best friend. My much slimmer, prettier, popular, and sexually experienced best friend.

Talk about self-esteem killer.

And I didn’t have much of that to begin with.

But maybe Harper, Dayna, and Ella were onto something. Maybe I needed to embark on a journey of self-discovery and casual sex. No strings. No promises.
