A whole heap of trouble if anyone ever found out about my little infatuation with Austin’s sister.

But I was Noah Holden. I knew the art of distraction just like I knew how to paint over the cracks and pretend everything was fine.

Aurora was my best friend’s sister. Ergo, she was my friend.

That was acceptable.

That was safe.

That was all she could ever be.

Laughter greeted me when I finally got home.

After my little chat with Coach Tucker and then Aiden, I headed to the library to get a head start on my reading for this semester.

I’d picked Sports Business Management because I thought it would be a breeze. Turns out learning about economics, accounting, and marketing was harder than I thought.

“Holden, bro, get in here. We’re teaching Rory how to play Puck Wars.”

I dumped my bag at the bottom of the stairs, grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator, and headed into the living room. “Hey,” I said.

“You’re late. Get accosted by a bunny on your way home?” Connor smirked, and I flipped him off.

“Actually, I was at the library.”

“How very studious of you.”

“We can’t all be fucking geniuses like you, Morgan.”

“What can I say, man? I’ve got the brains and the good looks. Isn’t that right, kitten?” He leaned up, and Ella smacked a kiss on his lips.

“Mmm, you taste good,” she murmured, scraping his jaw with her fingernails.

“Okay, you two, let’s keep it PG-13, please,” Austin grumbled, jabbing his thumbs on the controller. “You need to block me, Rory, or I’m going to—GOAL,” he fist-punched the air, and she threw her controller down.

“I’m done. Connor, you’re up.”

“Nooo, Sis, don’t be like that. You were kind of getting the hang of it.”

“I’ve never been any good at computer games.” She stretched her arms above her head, making her t-shirt ride up her body. My gaze followed, my dick twitching behind my sweats.

It was another literary-inspired shirt, this one reading book boyfriends do it better.

Fuck, I’d like to test that theory.

As if she heard my thoughts, her eyes snapped to mine, narrowing with suspicion. I winked before joining Austin on the couch.

“How was Marketing?” he asked me.

“Okay, I guess. The professor is a relic. Made it crystal clear he doesn’t go easy on athletes.”

“Sounds like a hoot,” Connor said.

“Yep. Hence, why I spent the afternoon in the library trying to get a head start on the reading.”

“I feel your pain.” Austin gave me a sympathetic glance. “This semester is going to be a killer.”

“I don’t know. I’m kind of excited,” Connor said. “Time to think about the future, bro. The draft is calling.”
