“You would have had to fight two preteens,” she whispered between kisses. “I’ve been teaching them not to allow men to treat them like objects.”

So feminism had come to Papillon Gardens Trailer Park. Jayna could shake up the whole town, bringing her unique perspective to their world. And Papillon could teach Jayna that family was so much more than blood.

He kissed her over and over, wanting to surround her with his affection.

They moved together, her following his lead flawlessly as he eased them toward the bed.

He had to make her see they were perfect partners both in and out of the bedroom.

He could feel her breasts pressed against his chest and couldn’t stand the clothes between them. Stepping back slightly, he tugged his shirt over his head and tossed it to the side. She unbuttoned her blouse and he was on her again, his hands finding warm skin as he pulled her close and kissed her. He managed to twist the clasps of her bra, tossing itaside and dragging her close. Warmth spread through him, and it wasn’t all about how soft she felt against him. It wasn’t merely sexual but a sense of home he felt whenever he was with her.

It had been mere days, but she’d become the center of his world, the sun he orbited around.

“I don’t want to fight your family, baby. I want to get closer to them,” he said. “But we’re going to have to talk about mine.”

“Not now, Havery.”

She pulled away from him, and for a moment he thought he would have to fight for her to stay. Instead of running for the door, she slowly dropped to her knees in front of him.

“Baby,” he began but his body was already tuning up in anticipation. He’d been the one to perform this particular act, loving the way she tasted on his tongue, but he hadn’t felt her mouth on him before, and he tensed at the thought. “You’re going to kill me tonight, aren’t you? You’re going to make me crazy.”

Her hands went to the buckle of his belt, sliding it through the loop and unbuttoning his slacks. “You deserve it. The next time we’re in court, I want this to be the only thing you think about.”

She liked to play dirty.

But he didn’t protest when she eased his slacks down his hips, dragged off his boxers, and then took him in her hand, manicured fingers stroking him. He didn’t object when she leaned in and pressed a kiss on his most intimate flesh. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of her mouth on him, lips and tongue moving over him, making him crazy.

Over and over she brought him to the edge and pulled him back. He slid his hands into her hair, smoothing it and watching as she lavished her affection on him.

It wasn’t long before he couldn’t take it a second longer. He tugged gently on her hair. “Please, baby. I want to be with you.”

Her head turned up and she held out her hand. “Only because I’m hungry and I get the feeling you’re not going to feed me until you get what you want.”

What he wanted was her with him always, but she wasn’t ready for that. Not yet. He could be patient. The fact that she was willing to walk back out into the dining room with all the rumors that would be flying around now would have to be enough. “I’ll get you anything you want. I really was planning on asking you to come out with me tonight. I wanted you to spend time with my friends. The sane ones. Take off your pants.”

He was already kicking off his loafers and moving his slacks to the side. He retrieved the condom he now routinely carried because he’d turned into a constantly horny teenager around her. If she was willing, he would take her into the courthouse broom closet during their next trial. He watched as she shimmied out of her panties.

“You are so gorgeous,” he said as he rolled the condom on. “Do you know how hard it is to concentrate when we’re in court?” He moved in, his hands sliding around her waist to drag her close to him. “I lose my train of thought every time you look my way.”

Her nose wrinkled. “It didn’t seem that way when you objected to my line of questioning twenty-two times today.”

He loved to work with her. He kissed her again, his tongue delving deep as her hands smoothed down his back. He hated the fact that they’d fought. “Forgive me. I can’t stand that I made you think I’m not proud to be with you. I walk into that courtroom feeling like the luckiest man in the world. Don’t you ever forget that.”

He took her into his arms and gently tumbled on the small bed with her, spreading her legs and making a placefor himself there. He stared down into her big brown eyes. They always pulled him in. This woman would forever be a mystery to him. He might unlock parts of her, but she would always be a challenge, a puzzle he desperately wanted to solve.

Jayna Cardet was the endgame for him. He accepted it in that moment when he thrust deep inside her body, making them one.

Her legs wrapped around his waist as she matched his rhythm, shifting it slightly so it wasn’t his anymore, but uniquely theirs.

It wasn’t long before she tightened around him, her climax sending him straight into his own.

Pleasure coursed through him along with all the unfamiliar emotions this one particular woman always brought out in him. Satisfaction. Love. Peace.

He fell on her, holding her close and praying he never had to letgo.

chapter twelve

Jayna was warm, her body still pulsing with pleasure as Quaid wrapped his arms around her, and she realized she was on the edge.
