“What’s that mean?”

“It’s someone who stands out in front of other people. Like a first line of defense.”

“Sure. I got a shooter game I play like that.” He made a face. “Whatever.”

“What about these maps and plans?” She waved at the wall closest to her.

“I told you I ain’t never been in here.” He almost wailed the words.

“Behind you.” Peter squeezed around Liam and the cuffed man. “Almost got them all. It’s a shame.”

Gage said, “Excuse me?”

Clare turned to survey the photos, leaving the cops in the room to deal with their suspect while she looked more at the blueprints.

“I wanted to go undercover. Try to get in on the crew.” Peter breezed in and set down his laptop. “Bob’s been talking about operations where he went undercover.”

“There’s a training course you have to go on first,” Gage pointed out.

Peter moved next to his shoulder and breathed the word, “Chevalier.”

“Yes.” Clare chuckled. “The undercover training course is with Chevalier in Last Chance County.”

Gage shook his head. “Why does that scare me, and I literally have no idea what you guys are talking about?”

Liam murmured his agreement. “I’ll get this guy back downstairs. Since he’s apparently useless.”

The young man sputtered, but the noise dispersed.

Clare turned to Peter, who hadn’t moved. “Let’s figure this out. But as soon as I’m back at my desk, I’ll put in the request.”

If she hadn’t been standing in front of him, the kid would’ve probably jumped up and down, pumping his fist in the air. Done some kind of twenty-two-year-old male version of a happy dance.

“So tell me what this is.” She tried to find the code at the bottom that would tell her what version this was. They’d gone through so many when she moved the company from a store front downtown out to the office building they now occupied. “Other than our building.”

Peter squeezed her shoulder. “Building plans.” He walked a circuit around the room. “Electronic schematics. The entire breakdown of our computer network. Except for…”

“Yep.” She didn’t look at Gage. If she explained, it would beafterhe signed a nondisclosure. “What else?”

“Entrances and exits.”

“But not security codes.”

“No, he has how it’s wired up, but not how to disable. Or the override that, of course, I know nothing about.”

Clare would’ve laughed at any other time. “You, or Simon?” His twin brother had settled in the tech department, where Peter wanted to be undercover and all the other stuff that came with it.

“Both, actually.”

“Bet?”

Peter grinned.

“Maybe you and your twin should bet each other that you can’t find this Berlin guy before the police do.” Working together had to be better than competing. They should pool their resources, even if it was to get one up on the police.

A result was a result.

“Aaron Crenshaw?” When Gage nodded, Peter continued, “Sie is already on it.” His gaze slid to her. “Using the thing that lets us see the stuff.”
