“Call him,” Rose-Marie stated.

Mariah pulled her phone out of her robe and, looking at the other’s stern faces, dialled Tristian.

“Hello?” a sleepy voice demanded after the eighth ring.

“Hi. It’s me, um, Mariah.”

“What is wrong?” Tristian asked, sounding much more awake.

“The vampire escaped, and Benedict lost control. He tried to hurt me. The witches told me to contact you because they need the Rakehell Six,” Mariah stammered.

“Vampire? Witches? Fine, explain when we get there. Where are we heading?” Tristian demanded, and Mariah heard a sleepy woman speak.

“The Jekyll and Hyde Inn. Do you know it?” Mariah inquired.

“Yes. We’ll alert the others and be there as soon as possible,” Tristian replied.

“Thank you!” Mariah whispered, her voice catching on a sob.

“Mariah, we meant it when we said we’d stand with the Nortons. Never fret. We shall come,” Tristian responded, his tone gentling.

“See you soon,” Mariah whispered and disconnected the call. “They are coming.”

“Will we have the thirteen?” Prudence asked.

Rose-Marie stared off into the distance.

“Yes. We will have what we need.”

Maggie hurried from the inn as Rose-Marie parked the car and caught her up in a hug. Mariah sunk into Maggie’s arms and sought comfort from her friend.

A presence disturbed them, and Mariah looked up and gasped.

“He looks like you!”

“He is my brother; I would hope so. Come now, Mariah, let’s get you inside and into a warm bath. Maggie has been cooking up a storm, but we didn’t expect extra guests,” Lucian said, his gaze studying the four women with Mariah.

“We’ll require more. I’ll help out in the kitchen,” Rose-Marie offered, stepping forward.

“Who are you?” Lucian demanded.

“It is a long story, Lucian. Mariah needs the comfort of a warm bath, and we shall explain while she relaxes,” Edith answered Lucian as his eyebrows rose at being so casually addressed.

“Come on, Mariah, we’re all in our quarters. Let’s get you warmed up. I left some of my clothes in the bathroom, and we’re a similar size, so hopefully, you won’t look too bad,” Maggie teased.

Mariah leaned into her friend’s comfort and took courage from it. Lucian had returned to life, and Mariah clung to the hope they could somehow find a way to save Benedict. Lucian chivvied the gaggle of women along as they all spoke over each other and rolled his eyes at Maggie, who smiled sweetly. That, that love there. It was what Mariah wanted with Benedict, and she prayed they’d get the chance.

Lucifer

“Is it time?” Metatron demanded.

“Not quite. But soon. Be prepared, brother, because the outcome of this situation is on you!”

“That’s a surprise. Luc…”

“Leave it, Metatron. Let’s see to our duty, shall we?” Lucifer said and walked away.
