Metatron shook his head. Ever since their argument, Luc had been distant. Metatron was worried about his sibling.

Mariah

When she returned to the living room, she discovered only Maggie was present.

“Are you okay?” Maggie asked, looking at the bruises on Mariah’s arms.

“They are from Klaus Anderson. Not Benedict. He never actually touched me, but he wanted to. The bloodlust had taken over,” Mariah whispered.

“We shall free him. Just like the Rakehell Six and Lucian. Trust me, Mariah, Lucian will turn the world upside down to save Benedict,” Maggie said stoutly.

Mariah envied Maggie and her belief in Lucian.

“Everyone’s in the bar as one of the old ladies mentioned more people were coming,” Maggie added, linking her arm through Mariah’s.

“The Rakehell Six. They told me to call them.”

“Oh, wonderful. Lucian and the Rakehell Six barely get along!” Maggie replied, but there was amusement in her eyes.

“Is that a bad thing?” Mariah asked as she considered how Benedict had treated the Rakehell Six.

“It can be highly ridiculous! They all argued so much for one afternoon, the ladies went shopping, and they didn’t know we’d left until we returned with bags!”

“That is funny. Maggie, they will help Benedict, won’t they?” Mariah inquired, spinning to face Maggie.

“They are coming, aren’t they? Yes, Mariah, we’ll get Benedict back!” Maggie swore.

Mariah finally relaxed and allowed Maggie to lead her into the bar, where the other five waited for them.

“I made coffee and tea, and breakfast is cooking. Maggie, I hope you don’t mind, but I put what you prepared in a warming pot for now as more people are coming,” Rose-Marie said as they appeared.

“That’s fine,” she turned, “Lucian, you must be on your best behaviour!” Maggie warned.

Lucian’s eyebrows rose, and then he groaned.

“Oh, don’t tell me…”

“We need them!” Maggie argued, and Lucian pouted but subsided and sipped his coffee.

“So, does someone want to inform me what happened?” Lucian demanded.

Mariah paled as Maggie shook her head.

“Wait for the others. It will pain Mariah to go through the story twice,” Maggie said. Mariah watched as she bent over and kissed his brow. “Let me feed you, and you will be much more malleable.”

Lucian grunted, but Maggie noted he didn’t argue. He gazed after Maggie with a look of pure love that almost made her cry. Lucian really cared for Maggie, and Mariah was grateful. Maggie needed someone to cherish her like that. Lucian caught Mariah staring and reached out and took her hand.

“I kicked Benedict’s arse as a young boy, then as a teenager, I shall kick his arse as a grown man, Mariah. Do not fret so. We will recover our Benedict and send this vile creature into the darkness where it belongs,” Lucian said with the utmost confidence.

It was exactly what Mariah needed to hear!

Chapter Eleven.

Mariah

“So we’re fighting a vampire and someone half-vampire?” Daniel asked, sitting back and rubbing his stomach. He’d just finished the second helping of breakfast, and Mariah had been amused at how much he’d eaten.

“Hey, we dealt with zombie Emile!” Henrietta piped up.
