Finn: I can’t promise much. There’s plenty of land to bury them, and no one will ever know.
Derek: We’re not that kind of company.
Finn: Did you hear about Bennett Crawford?
Derek: I did, and I’m glad I never worked for him.
Finn: I just don’t get how he died in Oregon and his people were killed in Mexico. Do you?
Derek: You have a theory, don’t you?
Finn: That little town, Baker’s Creek, Oregon, has a security company. I can guarantee you that it’s part of the people we shouldn’t look into.
Derek: But you’re doing it anyway?
Finn: Discreetly. I want to remain a ghost.
Derek: Take care of yourself, okay?
Finn: I’ll try, see you.
ChapterFifty-Nine
February 22nd,9:41 p.m. EST
Derek: I love the picture of Halsey and you. How’s she doing?
Piper: She’s doing great, but I feel like you just dropped the child with me and abandoned us.
Derek: Sorry. I should be back in a couple of weeks.
Piper: I’m just giving you a hard time. We’re doing great, and next month we’re going to Seattle.
Derek: You’re going home?
Piper: Yep, it’s my grandparents’ anniversary. I rearranged the schedule since I won’t be here for the next month.
Derek: Why that long?
Piper: There are a lot of things happening at home.
Derek: Anything I can help with?
Piper: Oh, nothing bad is happening. There are a lot of anniversaries, birthdays, and celebrations. I don’t want to travel back and forth.
Derek: I won’t see you for a month?
Piper: You’ll survive. I was gone for three weeks when Beacon was in the hospital.
Derek: How’s he doing? And will you ever tell me what really happened to him?
Piper: Sorry, I can’t say much, but don’t believe the tabloids.
Derek: He survived his accident, but will I survive without you and Halsey?
Piper: I’m pretty sure you’ll be perfectly fine.
Derek: Will you be okay?
