“I was just leaving.” I’m proud of how clear my voice is.

I attempt to release myself and walk away, but he doesn’t allow it. All he does is tighten his grip on me.

“I’ll show you out then.”

“Sounds good to me.”

“But first, let’s have a little chat.”

“Hard pass.”

“HardI don’t give a fuck.”

I grunt when Benny yanks me backward and lowers his hold on my elbow. I swat at his arm, cursing him, as he drags me through a back door and down a long, empty hallway.

A man is waiting at a door, and he opens it when we reach him. Benny shoves me inside and then slams the door shut behind us. I catch my balance right before I face-plant into a massive desk in the middle of the room.

I turn around to face the second-most feared man in the city.

Mob prince.

Killer.

My fiancé.

He stands tall, shoving his hands into his pockets, and his dark eyes burn into mine. His presence takes over the office … takes over my thoughts. He has my full attention.

He’s wearing all black—from his unbuttoned blazer to his button-up shirt and Italian leather shoes. His oil-black hair is thick and pushed back.

Benny Marchetti is gorgeous.

But not your typical gorgeous.

He doesn’t belong on the cover ofVogueor on a runway.

He is the gorgeous villain you shouldn’t want in your story.

A face chiseled with perfection and fury.

Dark scruff scattered along his cheeks and jawline.

There’s a small scar above his right eye—an imperfection, a warning he’s dangerous.

Coming to Seven Seconds was a mistake, but my friend Sienna had begged me to celebrate her birthday here. Joke’s on me because Sienna ditched me thirty minutes ago and left with some guy.

Time stands still when Benny advances toward me. “What the fuck are you doing in my club, Neomi?”

I don’t take a step back.

As scary as Benny is, I know he can’t kill me.

He raises his voice. “Not only are you here, but you also stabbed a manin my club.”

I roll my eyes.We get it. It’s your club.

“He grabbed my ass,” I explain. “It’s not like I did any serious damage.” I cross my arms. “If anything, I should be angry with you for allowing ass-grabbers inyourclub. I’ll be giving this place a negative review on Yelp.”

“I’ll punish the man who touched you.” His Adam’s apple bobs. “Just like you’ll be sent the bill for the broken glass you smashed to get your little weapon.”
