I pay little attention to the screen.

There’s too much on my mind.

The first: finding out who shot at us tonight.

Someone wants Neomi, or me, or both of us dead.

I need to figure out who that person is and put a bullet between their eyes.

Eh, I’ll probably not use a gun.

Torture is the best choice for someone who thinks they can hurt what’s mine.

But instead of doing that, I stay with my wife in bed and neglect those responsibilities.

Wait.Fuck that.

Neomi is my responsibility.

I want her to feel safe and loved.

I have to keep us protected. I promised my wife that I wouldn’t leave her alone in this piece-of-shit world, and I intend to keep it.

She gave me something she had sworn she never would.

Me not leaving her tonight doesn’t compensate for even half of that.

I wait until she’s snoring in my arms and the remote drops from her hand before I slip out of bed. I tuck her in, throw on some sweats, empty my pants pockets from earlier, and walk downstairs. I peek through the front window curtain to find Luca’s Suburban running in the driveway.

Luca rolls down his window when I step outside and head toward him. His expression confirms he knows he fucked up tonight. And as much as I’m not a man who allows excuses, Neomi put him in a challenging situation. It’s not like he could’ve forced them to sit downstairs with him. But he should’ve checked on her, watched the cameras, and found it odd that only one sister was hanging out with him.

Fuck, I hope he and Isabella kept their hands to themselves.

The last thing I need is Severino breathing down my neck because my cousin got too friendly with his youngest daughter.

I hold up my hand when he starts to explain himself. “We’ll discuss that tomorrow.”

I’m being lenient with him.

A rarity for me.

It’s as if Neomi’s pussy has calmed me.

I hold up the wallet I snatched from the dead driver, open it, and pluck out the ID. “This is the man who was driving the car tonight. Look familiar?”

Luca leans in to look at the ID before shaking his head. “Nah. The name doesn’t ring a bell either.”

I snap a quick photo of the ID and text it to Raul. He’s one of the best hackers in the country. He’ll have every detail on the dead disgrace of a man by the time I wake up.

“See if you can get any information and report back to me in the morning,” I tell Luca. “The more info I have, the faster I can get rid of this problem.”

He nods.

I walk back inside and return to bed with my wife.

I’m not leaving her tonight.

I’ll deal with the chaos tomorrow.
