He laughed. “Kind of goes with the rest of my body. It smells good in here. What are you making?”

“I just started burgers,” she said. “I figured you were hungry by now. Unless you’ve eaten more today?”

“I had that big brunch with you and then snacked when I could at work,” he said.

“Come in and sit down in the kitchen,” she said.

He moved to the table at the end of the galley kitchen and sat. “Anything I can do to help?” he asked.

“Nope,” she said. “They will be done soon. I guessed you were a meat and potato person. I picked up potato salad and pasta salad. You can have your choice.”

“I’m not fussy,” he said. “Whatever you put out.”

“I’ll put both out,” she said. “I’m not fussy either and bought them for dinner tonight.”

“Sorry you went out of your way,” he said. It wasn’t what he wanted. He just wanted to spend time with her, but she didn’t have to cook for him.

“It’s not out of my way. We said we wanted to see each other and will have to take advantage of the time while we can,” she said.

She flipped the burgers over and then opened her fridge and pulled out sliced cheese and a beer and wiggled the beer at him.

“Sure,” he said.

“Good. I’m not much of a beer drinker, so this is for you.”

Again, something nice she was doing. He wasn’t sure of the last time he’d dated someone that went out of their way early on. Maybe it was a little thing to many, but for him it was nice to be with someone considerate.

She opened the bottle and poured the beer for him, then handed him the glass. “Thanks,” he said and took a sip.

“Where do you live?” she asked. “Or don’t you feel comfortable sharing that?”

“Not far from here,” he said. It took fifteen minutes to get here from the gym, but he only lived less than ten minutes from the gym. Less than ten minutes from her place. That made it convenient too.

“Not far could be thirty minutes or three minutes,” she said, laughing. “Cheese?”

“Yes, please,” he said. “Less than ten minutes from here. I’m about ten minutes from the gym too, just slightly in another direction.”

“That is nice,” she said. “I’d like to be closer to work, but twenty minutes isn’t that bad. It took me about thirty minutes to get to your gym from work though.”

“Sorry it’s in the other direction. It’s like you’re backtracking,” he said.

“Yep, and it’s fine. Totally worth it,” she said, wiggling her eyebrows.

He stood up and got the plates from her and put them on the table and then opened her fridge and found the salads too.

She grabbed the rolls and some water for herself and sat down to eat.

“Do you have a busy week at work?” he asked.

“My job ebbs and flows,” she said. “Busy periods and then not busy periods. For the most part though, I put my time in and then leave. I like that I don’t have to take my work home with me, but I’d like to move up at some point too and if I do then that will be different.”

“Do you want to stay at Fierce or move up somewhere else?”

“Totally stay at Fierce,” she said. “I love it there. I could move up. There are a few positions, but it will take time. I love what I do. They treat the staff well.”

“That makes a difference right there,” he said.

“I’m sure you do the same for your staff,” she said.
