“You haven’t,” Emily said. “Do you even want them?”

“I do. And don’t tell me I’m not getting any younger. I know that.”

She turned twenty-nine two weeks ago. Here she’d thought she’d be married and starting a family by now and she was only into a new relationship. She supposed it was better than being single though.

“Don’t rush it,” Emily said. “That’s my advice to you. Maybe I did.”

She wanted to ask if Emily regretted it, but that wouldn’t be nice. Or fair. Emily had already said she loved Tom and she had two beautiful great kids out of the marriage.

“We all have to live with our choices,” she said. “I’m doing that and hoping that holding out so long for the right guy will work out in the end.”

“I think Jonah is a keeper,” Sarah said. “And if you do too, then who the hell cares what anyone else thinks.” Sarah turned and looked around and then lowered her voice some more. “And you get to see him naked. You lucky girl.”

She laughed. “I am one lucky girl!”

Find A Good Balance

Jonah had seen Megan working out with her sisters earlier this morning. He’d been busy and moving around but caught some of the conversations and wished he hadn’t.

He’d heard them getting on her case again about things and how her parents didn’t think he was good enough.

He had to let it go. He didn’t give a shit about what people thought of him in the past and wasn’t going to do it now. He had heard Megan defend him and even her older sister Sarah did it too.

It was just one more thing that he had to remind himself that Megan put up with in her life.

“How long are you going to stay in the shower?” he heard with the door opening.

“Why?” he asked Megan. “Did you want to join me?”

He’d gotten home about an hour ago and was showering now to change before they left to meet Cody and Raina for dinner.

As sad as it was, he couldn’t believe in the three months they’d been dating they hadn’t done much more than get some food out together a handful of times.

Maybe that was why her parents felt the way they did about him. Could be they didn’t think he was paying enough attention to their daughter.

But it’s not like Megan ever complained about it. He’d finally gotten his schedule worked out to the point where he had Sundays off or only had to go in in the morning and he was trying to get out earlier on Saturdays so that she could stay the night. Even on Friday he wasn’t staying until closing as much, but sometimes he had to work around his client’s schedule and Megan had even told him that his business came first.

He didn’t want her to feel that way, so he was trying to find a good balance.

“I already showered twice today,” she said. “But the steam is coming out from under the door.”

He’d worked out earlier this morning before the gym started to get busy and then showered there. Then he’d been training people most of the day until it was time to leave.

“I’m almost done,” he said. He was in there longer than normal, but it felt good to let the hot water splash over his body. It was not something he got to indulge in often, as he was always on the move.

He rinsed the shampoo from his hair and then got out to touch up his beard. He’d kept it because Megan liked it and it was easier for him to just trim it once a week or so. Today was as good a day as any.

When he finally came out he saw her sitting in the living room in dark jeans that fit her body like a glove and a shirt that covered her appropriately but showed what a smoking body she had.

“Damn,” he said. “Are you trying to get me in a fight tonight?”

“Please,” she said. “No one is going to start anything with you and you know it. I just want to be worthy to be on your arm. You know, this fitness god that you are. My sisters are jealous of my body.”

She stood up and did a spin for him. “It is a nice body.”

“Only nice?” she asked. “I’ve been working so hard.”
