He pulled her close to him and hitched her up like he always did. She wrapped her legs around his waist. It was their thing it seemed. “More than nice. And yes, you are working hard. I don’t want you to be a bodybuilder. Please don’t tell me you think I do. Not that I’d tell you what to do either.”

“No way,” she said. “I don’t want a lot of muscles, but I like what I’ve got. I can flex and see them and that is good enough for me. I’ve lost a few pounds and didn’t mean to, but I think it’s just I’m building more muscle. My clothes are a little loose now. I might need to go shopping.”

“Muscle weighs more than fat, so I’m sure you’ve lost a lot more inches than you think you have. These jeans aren’t loose.”

“Nope,” she said. “They were a little tighter than I liked before and now they are perfect.”

His hands went to her ass and felt around. “They are. I wish we didn’t have plans with anyone and we could stay in and I’d show you what I think of all the hard work you’re putting in.”

She rubbed against him some and then slid down his body. “Later for sure. Now we need to leave. I’m starving.”

“Megan,” Raina said over an hour later. “This is like the night we went out and you wanted to get your Buddha belly on without witnesses.”

Megan smiled and wiped her mouth with her napkin. She’d put away a good-sized steak and potato tonight. Not as big as Jonah’s, but she wasn’t kidding when she said she was hungry.

“Cody, did Raina ever tell you that story? It was the night that you showed up with Tommy and she and I were stuffing our faces.”

“I don’t think so,” Cody said. “I just remember seeing her there and thinking I was in love with any woman who actually ate a good meal and wasn’t afraid to. I’m over the salad-picking type.”

“No shit,” Jonah said.

“I’d had another crappy date prior to that,” Megan said. “I was so done with it and said I was going on a dating moratorium. I needed someone to go out and stuff their face with me and I noticed that Raina had no problem eating her meal at Ryder and Marissa’s wedding.”

“What does that mean?” Jonah asked.

“The salad-eating girls,” she said. “Raina and I sat with a bunch of single coworkers at the wedding. Only Raina, Chloe, and I cleaned our plates. Everyone else was trying to be dainty. No way. The food was way too good and I didn’t care.”

“She’s right,” Raina said. “It was really good and I wasn’t there to impress anyone.”

“You were filling your face because you didn’t want to answer any personal questions,” Megan said, grinning at his sister. He could see that happening too.

“Maybe it’s because I had my eye on my future husband. You were all asking me who he was and I knew because I worked with Ryder more than anyone else.”

“You had your eye on me back then?” Cody asked. “Guess it was meant to be and the Fierces didn’t need to do that much other than push us together.”

“You did it yourself,” Raina said. “When you tried to save me at the New Year’s Eve party.”

“Save you?” Jonah asked. “Now what am I missing?”

“Nothing,” Raina said. “Some coworker was hitting on me and didn’t like that I said no a few times. Cody came over and saved me. I told you how we spent a few hours talking that night. That is what started it all.”

“Women like a man that saves them, Jonah,” Cody said, winking at him.

“Some women are good at taking care of themselves,” Megan said and grinned at him. He’d have to remember that too.

They finished their dinner and went to the bowling alley. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been bowling. Probably when he was in high school, but he’d been told this was Raina’s idea and he’d never shoot down his sister.

They’d gotten their rented shoes and he tried not to cringe over that, but it was what it was. He worked in a gym and knew things were sanitized. He’d seen them spray them down before they were handed to them and when they were handed in.

Once their names were put into the computer, they each got a few practice throws and then the lights went out.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

“It’s Rock and Bowl,” Raina said. “Music is going to start playing and there will be flashing lights like a disco. This way when we all suck we can blame it on that.”

An hour later though, he wished he’d known the music and lights were going to be happening, as he could start to feel a headache coming on.

The music wasn’t the problem. There were loud noises at the gym all the time. But the flashing lights were the issue.
