“Alicia helped me out on my trip to Grand Cayman,” Jake said. On the plane, we’d agreed that I’d pretend to have been working a shift aboard the HondaJet. Jake’s usual flight attendant on his private jet had gone to her parents in Texas and wasn’t available for the trip to Grand Cayman, but luckily, I had my flight attendant uniform with me, so it checked out.

“Damn, I heard about that,” said Sam. “You landed the plane?”

Jake nodded. “Not the ideal way to arrive,” he said. “But we were okay.”

“Glad to hear it,” said Sam. “Wanna come in for a bit?”

“Sure,” replied Jake.

As I watched them both, laughing and joking while I put away my things and changed into a top and a pair of soft sweatpants, I realized that the bond between Jake and Sam was strong. They’d both lived through near-death situations together and could laugh about anything. They easily passed an hour chatting among themselves. I was starting to wonder if Jake was going to bring up what had been happening between us any time soon.

“Well, I gotta go,” said Sam.

“Go?” I asked. “Go where?”

“I’ve got a flight tomorrow,” Sam explained. “I want to go and see Andrea. Don’t worry. I’ll be back in the morning.”

“Okay,” I said. “I was kind of hoping you’d stick around tonight. I’m still a little shaken up.”

“Awe, you’ll be all right,” said Sam. “You’re here, aren’t you, Jake?”

“Sure,” Jake replied. He threw me a quick glance. “I’m not busy.”

“After all, there’s nobody I trust to watch her more than you,” laughed Sam. “I’ll see you’ll in the morning.”

He’d skipped out the door before either of us could blush.

“Wanna go out?” asked Jake. “We could get dinner, and see a movie. Or there’s an amazing place where …”

“No,” I said, flatly.

“No? What girl doesn’t want to get taken out?”

“The kind ofgirl,” I retorted, sliding onto the sofa, “who’s had enough fun for one weekend. Unless an emergency doctor’s trip to have additional tests done, almost dying in a plane crash, a tropical island visit, and a speedboat trip sound like a normal weekend to you.”

Jake thought for a minute. “No,” he admitted. “No, it doesn’t.”

“Tonight,” I explained, “we’re having a night in.”

“How do you do that?”

“It’s pretty simple. Movies. Takeout. And no talk about stalkers, or airlines.”

Jakeknewhowtohelp me relax, even if the concept was pretty alien to him. A few hours later we were sitting in my living room, with enough leftovers to feed me and Sam for the next week.

“I wonder if you can freeze fried pizza dough,” I said.

“I wouldn’t try it,” he said. “I can’t even believe you’d try to eat it.”

“Not everyone’s a keto fanatic! Some of us like carbs! Some of uslovecarbs. With a passion.”

We laughed, and I curled up next to him. I loved Jake’s strong frame and muscular physique. It made him amazing to rest against. Even though we’d only really been together for a short time his body felt like home to me. And I wanted to explore it again.

I kissed him, gently, first by nuzzling his neck. Jake had grown a rough stubble while we were in Grand Cayman. I liked it. If anything, it just made him look sexier, accentuating his chiseled chin and making me marvel at his manliness. I felt the desperate, wanton desire I’d felt since I first met him rise up again inside of me.

“Can I tell you something?” I whispered in his ear, as he held me firmly in his arms.

“Anything,” he replied.
