“It’s Ethan and Tristan, stop with the formal shit,” Ethan sighed. He hated being called Mr. Moore, that was his father’s name.

“Ava, relax. Nothing is gonna happen to you. This contract is for our safety. It’s a non-disclosure. As for the other guy, we will take care of that.” I tried to use my calming but stern lawyer voice. It usually worked on my clients.

She just blinked at me as if she didn’t understand.

“We bought you for two reasons, to be a wife for Ethan and a mother figure for Joseph. None of which include me. I will provide financially and give you and your family whatever you guys may need. We exchange vows next week, and that’s it. Do you understand?” I asked because she just stared at me.

“No, I’m gonna need you to be blunt.” She clasped her hands together.

“You and I will not be having sex, ever. This contract states that you will never speak of this to anyone.” I handed her a pen.

“You don’t want to sleep with me, that’s fine. I don't want to sleep with either of you.” She snatched the pen and signed without reading it.

I would have to teach her that in the future, she was only to sign something after reading it.

“Peach, I doubt that. You wouldn’t have agreed to this. They gave you a chance to walk away.” Ethan raked his hand down her arm, leaving a trail of goosebumps I could see across my desk.

My phone beeped.

Secretary

You have to get here fast.

Why? Did the deal with Aiden fall apart?

He was selling me land that would one day be Miller Stadium and house the New Boston Red Sox. I couldn’t lose out on that deal.

Secretary

No, she’s here.

Who?

Lisa.

I kindly excused myself and left. Ava still looked confused and almost like she was upset that I wouldn’t be having sex with her. She was insanely attractive, and the thought of having her got my dick hard. I wanted her, but this was for the best. Since I lost my wife, I couldn’t. It was like I was cheating on her.

Lisa was in my office pacing when I got there. Her hair hadn’t been combed in weeks, maybe months. She kept her arms crossed and scratched at her forearms. I didn’t think it was possible, but she lost more weight.

I saw pictures of her when she was younger. She was so much more put together. I wouldn’t say she was pretty, but she was healthy, happy, and a mother. She was no longer any of those things.

“Sir, I did like you said.” My secretary, Lynn, stopped me before I entered my office. “I tried to give her the money. She said she needed to see you. That this was bigger.”

“You did just fine. Thank you.” I guided her to the side so I could walk past her.

Lisa had been coming around for years, six to be exact. I tried multiple times to set up a deal where I would send her the cash. Since she didn't know where she would be sleeping from day to day, she said no.

Instead, she would come to my office when she needed a fix. We came to an agreement, she would come in the back door and only approach my secretary. Lynn or whoever was working that day would give her the petty cash. If she saw my family, she was to leave immediately. Her standing in my office was never part of the deal.

“Lisa!” I snapped as I slammed the door. “What are you doing here?”

“You thought I wouldn’t find out!” she shouted at me. Her body smelled of sour milk and burnt plastic.

“Find out what? Lisa, we have a deal. Are you backing out?” I pointed at her. She knew if she stepped out of line, the money would stop.

“Ha. You owe me so much money. I saw the newspaper. Mr. Moore died. I want my cut.” She twirled around as if the money would fall from the sky.

Fire ran through my veins. My vision darkened. She had no right to a dime of that money.
