“Let go of me.” My words were muffled into his chest.
He squeezed tighter and rocked. I was like his oversized teddy bear. How did I get myself into this situation?
“Should I even ask?” Laughter came from above us.
I turned my head to see a man standing above me. He had shoulder-length curly blonde hair that hung over parts of his face. His sweatpants and t-shirt clung to his frame as if he purposely bought them a size too small. I had met him once before, time did not do him well.
“Boss, I’m so sorry,” the giant sobbed.
“Let the man go,” he chuckled.
The giant finally released me. It took a second to get up and regain my balance. Then it took both of us to help the giant up. Once I was up and everything was good, I took off my drenched suit jacket.
“Ethan.” Adam stuck out his hand.
“Adam.” I shook his hand.
The giant continued to sob. “I’m Brian.”
I nodded to him. We were already close enough that a handshake was past us.
Pointing at the broken bench, I said, “Sorry.”
“It’s only from the twenty-first century.” Adam shrugged. “Bri, go take a few minutes. I can deal with this.”
Brian mumbled as he walked away. His sobs were still heard down the hall. I wanted to follow him and make sure he was okay. He broke my fall, so I knew he had to be in pain.
“Ethan Moore, what can I help you with?” He tucked his hair behind his ear. That’s when I saw it. Burn marks ran down the length of the right side of his face.
“You can help me with a recent purchase of yours.” I tried to avoid looking at his scar while looking him in the eyes.
“Sorry, I don’t do much business with Moore Tech. I’m into publishing. Tech is destroying books.” Adam turned as if to dismiss me. “Even if I did, given our history, I would find somewhere else.”
“I’m talking about Ava Palmer,” I said.
He slowly looked back. His cheeks reddened. Anger flashed across his face. I blinked, and he had already composed himself.
“Listen, I need you to explain to the board it was a mistake. The glitch in the system had you purchase her with two others.” I assumed he would want someone all to himself. It was an easy fix.
“Rules are rules.” He waved toward the door. “Now, if you will excuse me.”
“Your family owns the auction. Tell them there was a glitch,” I growled. No way would he have her.
“Which is why I know the rules and the consequences.” He stepped closer to me. “You know why the auction is so successful? The first year a man put himself up for auction. His aunt bought him. He refused to marry her. My grandparents tied him to poles on the auction stage. They invited all the purchasers and entrants. In front of two-thousand people, they cut his balls off and let him bleed out. Termination.”
My balls flinched. There was no way I would allow that to happen to me. A quick suicide would be better. I had heard the story. Since then, not a single person had tried to defy the auction.
“So, how do you think this is gonna play out? You get custody of her on the weekends? I know you. It’s been years since you left your mansion. How do you plan on fucking her? She is gonna see your face and run.” It was a low shot. I didn’t care. There had to be a way to get her all to myself. Not to mention if he got involved, the plan with Tristan would be fucked. Tristan would have to perform his duties, so this asshole didn’t rat him out to his family.
“My dick works just fine, and it’ll be in Ava’s pussy. I will be around to collect her. If you stop me, it’ll be you bleeding from your nuts.” Adam practically foamed at the mouth.
She was mine. I clenched my fist and swung. I made contact with his jaw. My knuckles were already split open, so blood smeared across his face.
Adam grinned at me. His lip split open. Blood poured. I should have kept going, but he didn’t hit back. I ground my teeth and left.
There had to be a way to get him out of the marriage. Killing him would be an option if his family didn’t own the fucking auction. The backlash would be too severe.
I had one option. If I had to share her, I would be the best husband she could ever want.
