My choices were easy. Dottie Palmer and an eighteen-year-old kid named Manny Moon that just got accepted to Bale University. My father chose two nineteen-year-olds with perfect GPA’s and stellar resumes. He didn’t look beyond the paperwork to see the person. Not to mention his two candidates had highly connected last names. One was even Tasha’s cousin.

“Finally.” I clapped my hands. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to go to the security room.”

“For what?” My dad placed his folders in his briefcase.

“Not that you care, but someone is threatening Ava. I’m checking the cameras to see if someone has managed to get in. I’m also deciding where to put new cameras.” I had told Ava her ex couldn’t get in, but I didn’t believe that.

The man was cunning. I sent Daryl out to find this Brad Busby. He came back empty-handed. He even checked the location where Felix said the tent was, it was gone. Brad either left or was hiding. I believed it was the latter.

I would scour every hour of footage to find out who was getting in and how. As an extra precaution, every square inch of this house would be equipped with new cameras. Whoever was threatening her would lose their life.

“I’ll go with you. It’s always fascinating to see our tech in action,” My father followed me out of the room. “You know we could get the drones like they use at the games. Then we can program them to activate when they sense movement or heat detection.”

I inclined my head toward him, acknowledging his well-thought-out idea. It had actually surprised me he was being valuable and not a hindrance. Knowing him, it was to observe his technology in a real-life application versus the sports arenas they are usually in.

Tristan’s security room spanned the length of the house and was located in the basement. He had twenty-four house surveillance and had separate dormitories for each of his staff members on his security detail. Everything was meticulously placed and well-kept, as if they had a separate cleaning crew from the rest of the house.

The section that I was interested in had a wall covered in multiple television screens. They covered every square inch of the grounds. I glanced at the screens. Joseph was diving into the pool. He was really going to need to take a break from the water. Members of Tristan’s staff mulled around and went about their day-to-day duties.

Ava wasn’t on any of the screens which only meant she was inside the house. Tasha probably requested they take the meeting inside where she would have more table space. It was lovely that she was helping Ava, even if I was skeptical about her motives.

“What can I help you with?” Sam, the security guard, asked when he realized I was behind him. He wasn’t very observant, considering that was the sole requirement of his job.

“I need footage from every day since Ava moved in.” I crossed my arms.

“Particularly anything that shows someone entering or exiting that doesn’t belong.” My dad sat in the chair next to Sam. “Also, I would like to install more cameras inside the premise. Who is in charge?”

“All decisions like that gotta be run through Mr. miller. He has given you guys permission to review footage but nothing about installing anything.” Sam sat up, straightening his spine.

I was on the verge of breaking his fingers when my phone buzzed.

Tasha

So cool you guys are here, come say hi!

Where???

Peaks. Are you not with Ava?

Aren’t you planning the wedding with her at Tristans!

That was till I had to leave. Maybe that’s not her.

Send a pic now!

Tasha sent a somewhat blurry photo. Ava’s pink hair was a dead giveaway. Her back was to the camera, but whoever she was with was facing the lens. He had dark gelled-back hair and darker eyes. His hand was wrapped around her upper arm, which I was not fond of.

Led permeated my stomach. Rage shot through my veins. Without knowing it was him, I knew it was him. I would bathe in his blood. Not just because he carved his name into Ava but also because he had his hand on what was mine.

Brad would die.

“Pull up footage from the last hour,” I ordered. As much as I wanted to rush out, I had to make sure there wasn’t a mistake.

“Looking for anything in particular?” Sam clicked away at his computer.

“Ava leaving,” I fumed.

Sam tapped on the screen. A recording of Ava played. Felix, Sandy, and Ava walked out of the mansion and down the driveway. I checked the time stamp. Two hours. They left over two hours ago, and I hadn’t noticed. Fuck.
