“Lincoln. I think he’s been stalking me.”

She snorts as she sits on the bed next to me.

“Yeah, that dude is obsessed with you but in a sweet way. He’s totally in love with you. I don’t think he would ever hurt you though. Roman and Flynn both like him and they love you. They wouldn’t let him near you if they thought he would hurt you.”

I tell her what happened when I got home. About him saying he would take me anywhere I wanted to go, seeming upset when I mentioned the puppies would be on real food soon, and finally, finding our picture in his wallet. I tell her about how he kept saying that he pays attention to me and the way that he broke up my date. We talk about how he knew about the apartments that I was looking at.

We talk and talk and try to work through things but in the end, I still don’t know how to feel about all of this.

“Yes, you do. You love him too. You’re just scared to let him in. You’re scared that he’ll leave you like your parents did but Addy, that guy worships you. He’s not going anywhere.”

“Can I stay here tonight?” I ask.

“Of course. You know you’re welcome here anytime.”

She hugs me close before she gets up and leaves the room. I curl up on my side, trying to sort through everything in my head one more time.

I’m not sure when I fall asleep, but when I wake up the sun is starting to rise. I check my phone and see a bunch of missed calls and texts from Lincoln. I ignore them for now. I have to get up and get ready for work and I don’t want to get dragged down into everything right now.

I run into the bathroom and try to finger comb my hair. None of my stuff is here so that will have to do. When I walk out into the hallway, Aspen is there.

“Morning.”

“Morning. Think I can borrow some toothpaste?”

“Yeah, I have some clean clothes for you too.”

She pops back into her bedroom and comes out with a folded animal shelter shirt and a pair of my jeans. My toothbrush and comb are on top of the pile too. All of this was over at Lincoln’s place.

“How?” I start.

“Lincoln brought it over. Said he wanted you to have what you would need in the morning.” She says with a told you so smirk.

I don’t say anything to that, just grab the pile and head back into the bathroom. She follows me inside and sits on the counter. I smile at that. We used to have to crowd into the bathroom at our old place but here there’s so much room that we can both fit comfortably.

“You know, it’s nice that he lives right across the street. Convenient.”

“Yeah, he just moved in like a month ago.” I say.

“Hmm, wonder why he decided to move here?” She asks but she’s saying it in a voice like she already knows the answer.

“Me.” I say as I realize that she’s probably right.

He knew that Aspen and I were close and so, of course, he would move close to her. For me. God, he really must love me. My phone goes off and I see it’s another text from Lincoln.

Lincoln:Good morning, my love.

I debateif I should respond and another message comes in.

Lincoln:Let me walk you to work?

Adeline:I need more time.

Even I’m disappointedin my answer but what Aspen said last night was true. I am scared and I just need a little more time to deal with it.
