“Again,” I told her, “I’m sorry. For blowing up at you about it and for bringing Jess into it.”
Nalani smirked. “How is her hairline doing?”
“That’s mean.”
“Fuck her.” She laughed, then winced again from the pain. “Oh,shit,” she muttered. “I guess that’s what I get for laughing, huh?” she said, lowering herself from the upright position she’d been in to lay down.
“I don’t know about all that, but… you probably need to rest.”
“And you don’t?” she asked. “Have you seen yourself in a mirror?”
I chuckled.
I had, actually.
After showering EJ’s blood off me, I’d definitely caught a glimpse of myself. He’d gotten more than a few good shots in, so I was a bit black and blue myself.

“What happened to him?” she asked, and I met her gaze.
Decided to tell the truth.
“I called some people I trust, and they took him somewhere he won’t be causing any trouble.”
She blinked.
“Is that code for him being dead?”
“He’s not dead. Do you want him to be?”
She considered it, then shook her head. “I don’t feel comfortable giving you my blessing to have somebody killed. But… I like that you offered,” she admitted, bringing a smirk to my face.
“I’ve already explained that to you, Nala… anything for my wife.”
“Anything… including your trust?” she asked, after a moment, and I pushed out a sigh.
“Yes. That too,” I told her, bending to press a kiss to the side of her head that wasn’t bandaged. “Get some rest, okay?”
She nodded, but then extended her hand toward me. “Will you stay?”
“You want me to?” I asked, eyebrow raised.
“Duh. Why else would I ask?”
“You and this damn mouth,” I muttered, shaking my head.
But…
I stayed.

“I’m very,verymuch not a fan of this shit,” Morgan fussed, fidgeting with my hair to make sure the lingering bruise on my head was covered. “You’re a billionaire’s wife; this isn’t cute.”
“You're right. Next time I get attacked I'll try not to lead with my head,” I quipped, grinning as she took a step back to admire her handiwork.
