Trying to make her give it up verged on kinda disrespectful.

“So you were gonna go out looking good, no ring, show your ass a bit, to get back at him?” Morgan asked, but Alexis shook her head.

“No, it wasn’t like that. It’snotlike that. I’m just… wondering now if he’s a good fit. Especially seeing you and Ri together.”

My eyes wenteven wider.

“Me?” I questioned. “AndOrion? You remember that he blackmailed me—wait… bullied me? Forced me? Shook me down? Whatever he did, damn, the point is, I didn’t evenwantto marry his ass. I shouldnotbe your relationship goals, friend.”

She rolled her eyes. “You say that, but the way he looks at you? Protects you? Supports you?Fucks you,” she teased, leaning in to nudge my shoulder. “I’m just saying… there’s a lot to admire.”

“And a lot to fucking pity, are you crazy?” I countered as she laughed. “Morgan, you understand where I’m coming from, right? You’ve dealt with this damn family.”

She shrugged. “My only opp was their snooty bitch mother and she dead.”

“Morgan,” I gasped, but her only response was another shrug as she sipped her drink.

“What? I didn’t kill her!”

“It’s mean!”

“And so wasshe,” Morgan insisted. “You never met her, so you don’t understand. I was a damn kid, Nala, and that lady wasnastyto me. And Ares listened to her, so… I don’t know what you wantmeto say. Fuck them.”

“Yeah, exactly, fuck them,” Titan called from the entryway, clearlyonly catching the very last part of her statement.

My eyesremainedwide as fuck as he sauntered in, followed shortly by Ares himself, an appearance that caused Morgan to knock back the rest of her drink and reach for the bottle of liquor again, not bothering with a mixer.

“Uh… hey,” I said to the guys. “I didn’t know y’all were coming through.”

“Yeppp,” Titan said, extending his arms to hug me, which I of course obliged. “Ri hit us up this afternoon.”

Whew.

So their presence had nothing to do with Alexis and Morgan being here, a fact I was trying desperately to communicate with my eyes.

Alexis was cool either way, greeting Titan as a friend who immediately said something to her in a low tone that made her start laughing.

Morgan, on the other hand…

She wasn’t feeling it.

“Morgan,” Ares greeted her, after he’d given me a quick hug too. “We didn’t get a chance to speak at the wedding, b—”

“Oh, we had a chance,” she interrupted. “I just didn’t want to fucking talk to you.”

His eyebrows went up. “I… understood.” He nodded. “I was just going to say I was glad to see you looking well after all these years.”

“Idolook good as fuck, don’t I?” she challenged.

“Oh God,” I muttered, covering my face with my hands.

I just needed a second, and then I was going to let Orion know that we’d changed our minds, we’d eat in my room, or on the porch, hell, anywhere but here.

But he was already at the doorway, insisting we take our seats for dinner to be served.

“Behave,” I hissed at Morgan, who rolled her eyes at me, but didn’t say anything else.

To her credit, shedidbehave.
