As long as Ares was quiet.

Or rather, as long as he left her alone instead of trying to make even the politest conversation with her. Titan found it amusing and kept trying to draw it out until Alexis and Orion teamed up to make him behave.

So… there were a few moments where it was a little tense.

Overall?

It was fine.

The food was great, and mostly the conversation was too, and afterwards, Alexis did indeed end up being the designated driver tasked with getting Morgan safely home. Ares and Titan left when they did and Titan took it upon himself to make sure Lex got home safely too.

Then… it was just me and Orion.

Me and myhusband, as my friends so loved to point out.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, walking me up the stairs to my room. Not that I needed the help, but he insisted.

“I feel… fine, I guess?” I answered, shrugging. “Are you asking if I had a good time with you and your brothers?”

A little grin played at the corners of his lips. “Maybe?”

“Oh please.” I laughed. “This isn’t the first dinner I’ve had with y’all. I always enjoy your family. Most of them,” I corrected. “Where has Bree been lurking?”

“A question I hope to have an answer to soon.” He nodded. “But I had to ask because this was—however impromptu—our first social gathering since I uh…”

“Lost your goddamn mind?”

That grin turned into a full-blown smile as he chuckled. “Uh… something like that,” he said. “I prefer to think of it as… growing pains?”

“Uh-huh,” I replied. “Whatever makes you feel better.”

“There’s only one thing that would make me feel better.”

I tipped my head to the side. “And what’s that?”

“Come to my bed like you used to.”

Those words made a breath catch in my throat, and I looked away, buying time to respond.

Hewas the one who hadn’t touchedmesince then.

Of course I was pissed at him at first, so trying to fuck me wouldnothave gotten him any kind of desirable result.

After that, though.

After that terrifying encounter with EJ, after getting poked and prodded by a doctor and making sure there was no concussion and all the shit I’d found out from my father and about my mother and just…everything… I’d craved his touch.

He’d beenpresentfor sure, had honored my wishes to join me in my bed, all that.

But he wasn’t… hungry for me.

Not like he’d been before.

He’d been gentle with me.

Which I’d needed, and appreciated.

But that just wasn’t the vibe our relationship, if we could call it that, had been built on.
