Her face fell. “You’re right.”

I couldn’t fucking stand to see that look on her face. Fallon’s friend Hailey wasn’t an option, not now she was living alone with no one to answer to, but I had to make it better somehow. “I’ll sort something out,” I promised, even though I knew that the odds were against us. Fallon’s dad…he liked to rule his household, and especially his only daughter, with an iron fist. When she was home from boarding school, he expected her to spend every night under his roof. If she dared to go against him…her brothers would be the ones to face the consequences. Her brothers toed the line—as far as he knew—and they were allowed all the freedom that she wasn’t afforded. But if she dared to step out of line, they were the ones that were punished on her behalf.

I wasn’t supposed to know anything about it. The Hydes kept everything close to their chests. But Fallon was mine, and I knew everything about her. In return, she knew all my secrets. I’d bled them all out for her, and she was the person who knew me best and accepted me for who I was. Even the darkest parts of me, the parts that I kept hidden from the rest of the world.

Fallon’s phone beeped, cutting off the music that had been playing. Turning to the side, she picked up her phone and glanced at the screen.

“My dad. We’d better get back. I can’t be late for the family dinner.” She climbed off me, twisting her hair up and tying it back, then bending down again to pick up the helmet that I’d bought for her to use. Jumping to my feet, I lunged forwards and tugged her into me, slanting my mouth across hers. Just one more taste of her.

“Zayde.” She whispered my name when we broke apart, her eyes wide and shining, reflecting the setting sun. “I wish I didn’t have to go.”

Yeah, I wished for the same, too. But wishes were useless in our world. I swiped my helmet from the ground and took her hand. “Come on. I’ll take you home.”

When I beckoned Fallon over and she kissed me, I remembered exactly why we kept up this forbidden relationship. We were both in too fucking deep to stop this now. She wasmine, and even though I knew this would all come crashing down on us one day, I wasn’t going to be the one to let her go.

“Good surprise?” She smiled.

“Always.”

“My dad doesn’t know I’m back home yet…and my brothers will probably be back late tonight. I told them I was going to see friends.” Her lashes swept down, and she shifted on her feet. “Um…I was thinking that if I texted Tim to say I was staying with friends tonight, maybe you and me could…maybe spend the whole night together?”

The whole night together.

Fuck.

We’d never done that yet. Never had a whole uninterrupted night where it was just the two of us. Our whole relationship had been stolen moments, sneaking around, both of us constantly aware of the catastrophic consequences of us getting caught.

Where could we go? I racked my brain. Maybe…

Wasting no time, I pulled out my phone and dialled.

“Mack? I need a favour.”

A low chuckle came through the phone. “If it’s more of your pyro shit, you’re gonna have to wait. You cleaned me out.”

“Not that.” I glanced over at Fallon, feeling that stab of guilt again. But this shit had been started by the Hydes and their fucking asshole friends, and they needed to be taught a lesson. Gritting my teeth, I clenched my fist around my phone. However I spun it in my head, the fact was I was going up against the family of the one person that I’d fucking die for.

“The warehouse. It has an office, yeah? I need somewhere to lay low tonight.”

Mack laughed again. “I don’t wanna know what shit you’re in now. But yeah, you can crash there if you wanna. Want me to bring anything over?”

“Does it have a bed?” I asked, then swore under my breath, because he’d know—

“It’s like that, is it, mate? There’s no bed, but I can sort you out with one for the night if you want it. Got a futon I can drag in there for you.”

He knew I didn’t give a shit about sleeping in beds or being comfortable, and there was only one reason I’d ask.

“Appreciate it. This needs to stay between us, okay?”

His voice turned serious. “You know it. Give me a couple of hours. I’ll leave the keys in the lockbox. The code’s 14962.”

“I owe you.”

When I ended the call, I turned back to my girl, lifting her chin so her eyes met mine.

“The whole night?”

She nodded, a smile playing over her lips.
