Everyone had wounds.

“I don’t know,” Vaughn said. “I don’t think they know who it is…this could be a random body dump. Someone trying to frame us.”

“You don’t believe that.”

Freddie didn’t move the whole time I spoke, but between him and Rome, the hyperventilating slowed down along with my rapid pulse.

Vaughn sighed. “No, Dove, I don’t. However, we can’t afford to worry about what-ifs right now. They’re handling it, and when they know, we’ll know. Kel knows you’re worried. Can you try to sit down? Maybe eat something?”

I let out a half-laugh. “I’m not hungry.” If anything, what appetite I might have had fled. There were just too many variables.

Liam bringing up the marriage thing again made total sense. Considering he had people looking, Mickey had people looking, and the guys were looking—no one knew where Uncle Fuckbucket was…

I’d been trying to think of all his possible locations. He had a couple of places—an apartment in the city and another down on the coast. They were his “retreats.” I’d only ever accompanied him a couple of times.

“Better?” Freddie asked as I finally started taking deeper breaths.

“Working on it,” I told him. “I promise.”

“You’re safe,” Rome said, and honestly, I needed to hear that. I needed the hug he wrapped around me. I needed Freddie’s nearness and support. I needed Vaughn’s soothing, sweet croon that just washed away so much darkness.

“I know,” I said softly, with a little more strength. “I know I am…I’m always safe with you guys.”

Rome kissed the shell of my ear, and some tension bled out of me.

“So,” Freddie said. “Would now be a good time to discuss date options?”

His smile was so damn playful, I couldn’t help smiling at him. “Good time? Probably not. But let’s do it anyway.”

"Painting is a good date,” Rome suggested as he eased up on his tight hug. I tilted my head back to look up at him.

“Yes, it is.” It was a very fun date.

“You put her butt print on the wall,” Freddie said. “That’s not a date.”

“Um, actually, pretty sureIput my butt print there. Rome just helped.”

All three stared at me for a moment, then Freddie’s serious expression cracked as he laughed. Vaughn chuckled, and Rome smiled. A little more relief trickled in.

“Right, date. What do you want to do?”

“Been thinking about that,” Freddie said, but before he could continue, my phone rang.

Rome loosened his grip further so I could pull out my phone. I didn’t recognize the number, but the fact the phone suggested it might be Julius King froze me in place.

This wasn’t the phone he’d given Liam for me. He shouldn’t even have this number…

CHAPTER33

EMERSYN

Liam vibrated with barely suppressed rage. Rome was in the passenger seat next to him, and no amount of snarling from Liam had dissuaded Rome from accompanying us after I presented the message from the king.

Restlessness exploded within the clubhouse when the guys came back in and Mickey scanned the message. “Why don’t we have a photo of this son of a bitch?”

I shrugged. “The only time I met him, I didn’t think asking for a selfie was a good idea.” Despite the flippant comment, I was in no way feeling remotely blasé about the subject.

“Wasn’t yelling at you, Little Bit,” he said, some of the saltiness in his tone lessening. “But you met him—” He cut his glance between Liam and me. “What did he look like?”
