“Six foot, maybe six-two,” Liam said.

“I’d say just under two hundred pounds.” It was a guess, since the guy had been built under that suit. He hadn’t been able to hide his frame, no matter how expensive or well-cut the tailoring had been.

“Dark hair,” Liam supplied.

“Hints of silver here and there. I think he colors it.” That could also be a guess. “Dark eyes. Mid-fifties? Maybe older?” He seemed around my uncle’s age.

“Clean-shaven,” Liam continued, then eyed me. “You think he colors his hair?”

“Maybe,” I said. “I know a lot of older gentlemen in some circles do that to keep their youthful appearance.”

Mickey snorted. “We need a picture of him, especially because Alphabet has turned up fuck all on Julius King.”

“What are the chances it’s not his name?” Milo asked, and since there was as much likelihood of that as anything else, I wasn’t the only one shrugging.

“Maybe I can get a picture when I go to see him.”

Liam spun around andglaredat me. The very real anger and irritation in his gaze buoyed my mood. “Hellspawn…”

“Yes?” I grinned, and his impatient huff made me smile a little broader.

“What am I going to do with you?” He might have groaned and glared, but there was also a hint of a smile as he dragged me close.

“I’d say anything you want,” I told him as he shook his head. “Except Milo is here. You know he gets kind of touchy about it.”

“Brat,” my brother grumbled. Even as laughter threaded through Liam, he tightened his grip around me. He hated this. We all did.

I wasn’t a fan, either. Nevertheless, if we could use Julius King, and it could protect them, then I was all for it. Not that I intended on trusting the man. He’d already wanted Adam dead for asking me to marry him. I didn’t want him to hear one word about Liam’s rather abrupt announcement.

Ten minutes later, the argument shifted to the body dump. It hadn’t been anyone we knew. The guys got photos, fingerprints, and then Mickey’s guys removed him. There was nothing to be done for him. The guy had been dead way before they even dropped him.

On some level, the idea that it was a guy relieved me. Only—what if it were Adam or Ezra? Liam had said it wasn’t either of them. While the face had been unidentifiable, he knew each man's tattoos on their arms, which were not present on the body dump.

So, for now, we had to wait on that. Meanwhile, Julius King wanted to see me as soon as possible. That afternoon, non-negotiable. Which was how I found myself sitting in the back of Liam’s SUV with Rome riding shotgun and a car with Kel and Vaughn following us. Milo wanted in on it, but even Kellan had nixed the idea as Liam objected.

“Vaughn and I can go for the money shot and see if we can get a photograph of this guy. We can’t afford for you to be seen there.” The even tone Kel used was hard to argue with, not that Milo had cared for it.

“We have more questions for Sharpe,” Mickey said, and then there was also my mother.

So we split up, four of them going with me and the other four staying behind.

When I leaned forward to put my hand on Rome’s shoulder, he glanced back at me. The weight of his gaze held the kind of quiet confidence I really needed at the moment.

“We have him,” I promised because whether Liam liked it or not, we all worried about him too.

“Yes,” Rome said. “Even if he’s an asshole.”

“Bite me,” Liam commented without an ounce of heat.

“Not while you’re driving,” I retorted, and he cut a look at me via the rearview mirror.

“You really do want a spanking, don’t you?” The fact desire licked along the teasing words pleased me enormously.

“I won’t tell you no.”

“Just not while I’m driving,” he commented, and Rome reached up to cover my hand on his shoulder.

“Exactly.”
