Epilogue

Simon

One Year Later

“I have a serious question,” I say to Ivy as I tuck in the covers around her little body. I kneel beside her bed and grab her hands in mine as I stare at her wide eyes.

“What, Daddy?” she asks.

“What do you think about me asking Alice to marry me?”

Ivy gasps and sits up on her knees, pushing the covers back. A huge smile lights her face up. “You mean it? She will be my mommy?”

“If she says yes,” I tell her.

She nods emphatically. “Yes, ask her right now,” she says, releasing my hands and trying to get out of the bed.

“Well, hold on,” I say, holding my hand up. “I’ve got it planned out, so we have to stick to it.”

“Is this a secret mission?” Ivy asks, covering her mouth as she laughs.

“Shh,” I say to Ivy, placing one finger over my mouth as she giggles again. I glance over my shoulder and make sure Alice hasn’t walked in the room. “We can’t give anything away. It’s going to be a surprise.”

“Can I be there?” Ivy asks, and I nod.

“I wouldn’t dream of you not being there,” I tell her, and she squeals.

I hold my finger up again, and she nods, her face turning solemn.

“I won’t tell anyone the secret,” Ivy promises. Then, she throws her arms around my neck and places a sweet kiss on my cheek. “I love you, Daddy.”

“I love you, pumpkin,” I tell her and grin as she wrinkles her nose.

“I’m not a pumpkin,” she says, and I shake my head.

“Yeah, yeah, get back in bed.”

I hold the covers up for her, and she climbs underneath them. I bend down to kiss her forehead. Excitement grips me as I think of the trip I have planned, and I’m thankful that Ivy is as happy as I am about it.

The only thing standing in our way of becoming a family of three is a simple yes.

“I can’t believe you planned all of this and kept it a secret,” Alice exclaims for what seems like the eighth time since we left Sunnyville this morning.

I push open the hotel room door at The Paramount and drop our bags inside. Then, I spin to grab her up in my arms. She gasps, her cheeks turning a captivating shade of red as I bend her backward and plant a kiss on her lips.

“It’s our one-year anniversary,” I say with a shrug once I let her back up, making sure she’s steady before releasing her. I can’t let on that it’s anything other than an anniversary trip.

“So it is,” she says, pulling her hair off her shoulders and fanning her face slightly.

“Hot and bothered?” I ask, cocking an eyebrow, and she rolls her eyes.

“You are full of it,” she says with a laugh.

“Want to go walk around?” I ask, and she agrees.

“Let me change out of my travel clothes really quickly, and I’ll be ready.”

“The money from Blindly Ever After was finally deposited in Heartful’s bank account,” I say as we stride beside each other, hands clasped.
