"I've changed my mind. When it comes to Avery, I will use everything in my power to protect her from people like you."

“People like me? I'm a businesswoman. She just made a bad deal. She doesn't get to bad-mouth me."

"Fuck yes, she does. My brother Declan is a lawyer. You don't want him on your case. Be thankful that bad-mouthing you is all Avery did." Once I gave Declan proof that she’d stolen designs—intellectual property—he should be able to hand Sophia her ass in a lawsuit. I personally couldn’t wait.

"All she did? Did you hear what I said? I lost investors."

"And you'll lose more than that if you don't fuck off and pay back every single cent you stole." I was pissed. How dare she?

She burst out laughing, but her eyes were attentive as she looked me up and down.

"What the fuck are you doing?"

Chapter Twenty-Three

Avery

Idried my face witha towel as I slowly walked down the corridor back to the suite. Now I understood why people went running when they were stressed out. I was prepared to order a treadmill-desk combo from Amazon as soon as we got home.

I still had a ton of adrenaline in my body. I couldn’t believe I ran my mouth like that at the shop. As a general rule, I didn't like to make a spectacle of myself or throw others under the bus, but the thought that Sophia could rob someone else made my blood boil.

I swiped my card, pushing the door of the suite open, and then I froze.

What the hell? Why is Sophia here?

My heart dropped. The zipper of her dress was undone. I could see the side of her boob from the doorway.

Sam was red in the face and clearly angry.

"You get the hell out of here," he bellowed.

“Why should I?”

"What the hell?" I said, walking up to them.
