“What are you doing? Don’t. You are not thinking clearly!” Max dove at me, knocking the phone from my hands and I growled at him. “Gio! Just take a minute before you go all guns fucking blazing on Boss because we all know how that will turn out.”

“I am not marrying her!” I shouted as I picked my phone up off the floor and pocketed it. Max was right. I needed to think clearly before speaking to Sal. I needed a plan.

“Just try to remember that this is not her fault. She is doing her duty as a boss’ daughter. She is shit scared of you,” Max spoke more calmly and I ran my hand through my hair for the millionth time.

“Good. She should be. Because I do not want her here. She can go back to her fucking father and I will deal with the consequences.”

“Well, that is a fucking stupid plan and you know it!”

I fell back onto the cream sofas and groaned aggressively.

“The best thing to do right now is not react. If you are really serious about not going through with this alliance, then you need a bloody good way out of it and that is going to take time and strategy. Let her stay here. Keep up appearances and play along with their crazy shit while you and I figure this out.”

“She can’t stay here,” I repeated. I knew Max was right. I knew that was the best and most sensible action to take but… Olivia. What the fuck was I going to tell Olivia? How was I going to explain who this woman was and why she was living here?

Suddenly, my eyes widened, and worry overwhelmed me. I pulled out my phone and typed a text asking if she was home. She replied quickly. We shared a few texts, and, for some reason, I instantly calmed down. She was safe and just talking to her had managed to help me regain control over my rage and think more rationally.

“What has happened? Who were you messaging?” Max asked curiously as he handed me the glass of whiskey he had made each of us.

“Olivia.”

There was silence in the room as he studied my face and then shook his head, running his hand down it.

“What the fuck have you done, Gio?”

“I can’t let her go,” was all I responded.

“Didn’t you think maybe it would be a good idea to sort all of this shit out first before you go and fuck the nanny and bring her into this mess!”

“Watch your mouth Max,” I growled, giving him a menacing glare. His eyes widened.

“Oh fuck me! Do you have feelings for her? That is even worse! How did you think this was going to play out? You go to Boss and tell him, ‘Sorry I cannot marry to cement an extremely important alliance that is crucial to our family’s power and peace with the Aianis because I have fallen for the nanny?’ Are you trying to start a war? Because that is what will happen between us and the Aianis. We already have Leones breathing down our necks, and you want to add another enemy?” he scoffed and took his glass to his lips, still shaking his head in disbelief.

I stood up abruptly and threw my glass across the room. The whiskey stained the cream carpet and the glass shattered as it smashed into the marble fireplace. “Don’t fucking lecture me on my life and my fucking responsibilities Max. I know exactly what this means. But I am not letting her go. I can’t.”

“Then you had better come up with a better plan quickly.”

“I will. Just keep her out of my sight. I want her out of the house tomorrow for the entire day, Max. I don’t care what you do with her, just keep her away from Olivia.”

I stormed past him and towards the door.

“Gio! Take it easy on Camilla,” Max called behind me and I growled. I didn’t give a shit about that woman. She was an imposter in my house.

Storming up the stairs towards my room, all I wanted to do was take an ice-cold shower and beat the shit out of someone. A punching bag in the gym was going to have to suffice as we had no enemies in the cellar right now.

I opened my bedroom door. My eyes widened and my jaw clenched. Her blue eyes showed so much alarm and fear as she stared up at me from the chair by the window. My chair. In my bedroom. By my window.

“What the fuck are you doing in here?” I bellowed, striding towards her. She cowered away from me.

“T- This is where your uncle told me to s-sleep. I- I didn’t me- “

I didn’t let her finish her sentence as I grabbed the top of her skinny arm and hauled up off the chair aggressively. I dragged her to the door, opened it and shoved her out.

“This is MY room. Stay the fuck out of it!” Her eyes filled with tears and her bottom lip trembled as she turned and raced down the landing towards the stairs. Slamming the door shut, I turned around and scanned my room, panting heavily. Now I knew she had been there; I could sense it. I could smell her perfume. I could see items had been moved. I snapped.

I ripped my bedding off my bed and threw it into the laundry, the smell of her perfume lingering on the bed sheets. I stormed into my walk-in dressing room and there hung up on hangers were all her fucking clothes. Ripping them down, I grabbed as many as I could and threw them out of my door onto the landing. I will deal with the rest later. I needed to release this fury inside me.

Taking two strides down the steps to the ground floor, I tore my T-shirt in half and kicked off my shoes. As I reached the gym doors, I pointed to one of my soldiers, Theo, who was standing nearby.
