“Well, in his defense, he gave away your business yesterday.”

“Oh, well, that makes it all better.” I sighed shaking my head. “Let me call the police and the tow truck.”

“You call the police, I’ll get you a tow.” He pulled out his phone and made a call.

The police came about thirty minutes later and the tow truck was right behind them. I filled out the report and it was taken to the collision center for repairs. After it was all settled, I pulled up the ride-share app on my phone.

“You don’t have to do that. I’ll get you home. You’ve had a long night and you shouldn’t have to wait. I’d also like to make sure that you get home safely.”

“No, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I continued watching the screen for drivers to appear but the nearest one was over thirty minutes away.

“Simone…” I followed his voice to see him standing at his car with the door open. “Get in, firefly.”

I hesitated. Glancing at my phone, nothing changed. Still, drivers were thirty minutes or more away. “If I get in your car, you’ll get me home in one piece, safe and sound?”

“There is no other way.” He smiled and it was the first time that I felt kindness from him. There didn’t seem to be a catch or drawback to getting into his car. Plus, I had my stun gun. If he tried anything, he’d feel it first.

I mutter as I slid inside. He made sure that my body was clear of the door before he closed it. Then he got in on the other side and the car began moving.

“Are you hungry? I know the best breakfast spot around.”

Before I could answer, my stomach growled answering for me. I hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast. He chuckled and looked over the seat.

“Denny, take me to Martina’s.”

“On it, boss.”

“I’ve never heard of that restaurant,” I admitted. Maybe it was fancy. I didn’t need him taking me somewhere too upscale. I wouldn’t be putting out because he’d decided to flaunt his money. I wasn’t that kind of girl.

“Trust me, you’ll like this place.”

I sat back and watched as the city passed us. Enjoying the comfortable silence, I didn’t question anything more. Eventually, my eyes closed and I let the day fade away. I’d deal with the car after I got home. For now, I let Beni take me to this place he knew of. A nap would prepare me to be alert once we were there.

ChapterFour

BENI

Itook Simone’s hand to help her from the car. Confusion colored her face as we ascended the steps to the front door. The brickstone was newly built and nothing to sneeze at. Even with just two floors it was huge. I knocked on the front door and Martina answered shortly after. Her infectious smile lit up her face and she pulled me in immediately for a hug.

“Ami!” She held on tight. “It’s been too long.” She said.

“Even though I saw you four days ago?” I asked as we parted.

“Yes!” She giggled. Her eyes caught sight of Simone and smacked my arm. “You’re beautiful.”

“Hello.” Simone blushed hard. Rosy cheeks were her tell. “I’m Simone.”

“I’m Ami’s sister, Martina.” She pulled Simone in for a hug and then escorted her inside leaving me on the stoop.

“Is that how you treat someone that you missed oh so much?” I laughed as I stepped in and closed the door.

I nodded to Ralph who was her guard on duty. He sat near the door at a desk watching something on his phone.

“Hey, boss.”

“Getting a bit round in the middle, aren’t you?” It was impossible to gain weight when you were around my sister. She was always prepared to feed an army. No matter what time of the day I showed up, she always had something prepared to eat.

“Ah…” He checked his gut and stayed quiet.
