“You wanted to talk. I’m here to talk.” He leaned forward on his knees with his eyes trained on me.

“You made changes again with out discussing them with me.”

“For you.”

“What?” I didn’t understand.

“For you. No more walking to your car in a parking lot that needed more light, cameras, and even a guard to escort you out. There is no La Notte Nera without you. You need to be safe. You need to be able to provide footage when the police asks for it. So, yes, I changed something. I’ll never apologize for trying to protect you. So if you’re looking for that…”

I’d crossed the room and kissed him, ending his explanation. My tongue entered his mouth and I swirled it against the roof of his mouth. He groaned and sucked on it. With my hands pressed firmly against his chest, I balanced there while giving into the pull that existed between us. I’d never had the kind of sizzle that buzzed between him and me. I embraced it and let it lead the way.

He pulled me closer and I stumbled onto his lap. He guided me to straddle him and I wrapped my arms around his neck. My fingers were lost in his hair, soft, and short. Then I traced his sideburns that led to the hair that thinly striped his jawline.

Unlike before, his hands curved over my butt, pulling my core into him. His fingers pressed into me, gripping me tight. Lost in this kiss, my hips ground into him. His mouth traveled from mine, kissing down the center of my dress where the skin was exposed. He grazed the top curve of them and nibbled down the swell underneath. He worked my breast free from the tape holding them in place. His tongue found purchase and the warmth of his mouth enclosed over the darkened peaks.

I moaned out, trying to keep up with my racing heart. He felt good and I pulled him closer as he worked. More pressure and suction. More heat. More… He moved my dress up my hips and his hands traveled up my thighs heating me up. I was ready for him to fuck me senseless when a knock came at the door.

“Fuck!” I blurted.

He chuckled, but his mouth stayed where it was.

“I need you, Simone.” It was Cara.

“I have to go.” I eased his mouth from my breasts and stood up. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. We’re just getting started. We’ll get our time.” He stood up and straighted his black button down with white cuffs and collar. He adjust his erection in his pants and I licked my lips as I watched. “Soon, Firefly.”

I nodded. “Right.”

Then I jumped into action to fix my own clothes. Popping to the mirror, I made sure I was presentable before rushing out of my office to find Cara. She saved me from throwing caution to the wind and finding out exactly what Beniamino DeLuca was all about.

Once I got downstairs, I saw Cara’s hair disappear around the corner to the storage and loading dock area. Once back there, I saw the reason why there was a sudden emergency. There were two cases of the distilled Vodka on the floor broken into pieces. The delivery guy stood there talking on the phone to someone with blood running down his arm.

Accidents happen but it was different when they were bringing us the only shipment that they that they could spare for today. There wasn't a way to go back to get more.

“How did this happen?” I look between Cara, the delivery guy, and Jill.

“Well,” Jill started, “I opened the door for him to come in. He scanned the barcode to make the delivery and he handed me the signature pad to sign. He’d already taken them off the dolly and had the crates sitting at the door with no intention of bringing them in. I explained that he needed to take them back to the storage room because that’s our agreement. He argued about it. When I pressed the point, he tried to slide them back without the dolly and slipped. That puts us here. He’s on the phone with his boss.” Jill’s face was beet red with irritation.

I looked back at the delivery driver. “Where's your cart?”

“Inside the truck. I don’t usually set up displays at night. I also didn’t think anybody was going to answer.”

“So you were just going to leave it?” I raised my voice unable to help it.

“I would have.” He scoffed. “That delivery was marked that it had to be here tonight. If you didn’t answer that was on you.”

What the actual fuck?

My pissed-off meter went from zero to one hundred, but thenhewalked up behind me. I could feel Beni’s presence the moment he entered the area. His scent reminded me of freshness. That clean scent that came from the rain when it poured. He smelled like it all the time and I loved it. That wasn’t helping me right now, though.

“What's going on here?” Beni asked.

“He's trying to blame us for him stumbling over crates that he shouldn’t have left at the door.”

“What did he trip over?”

Jill chimed in no longer able to keep her silence. The crate when he kicked it. He stubbed his toe and fell into it, knocking everything over.”
