Icame out of the casino three thousand dollars richer than when I went in. Maybe this was a sign that my luck was about to change. I had a few boys that I was about to text to meet me at my apartment. I was feeling good and thinking that three was my lucky number today.

Starting the car, I checked my surroundings and made sure all was clear before I pulled off. Getting on the highway, I accelerated to eighty miles per hour. At this time of night, there weren’t many cars on the road. At four a.m. why would there be? There was a car that speed up behind me and beamed his lights on high. Unable to see his face or the reason he was so close. I got over to let the asshole over. He followed me and blew his horn.

Getting over again, he followed me. What the fuck was his issue? I tried to slow down, but the car sped up instead. Frowning at the floor, I looked down to make sure my food was on the right pedal. It was. I hit the brake again and moved up to one hundred miles per hour and climbing.

Fear iced the blood in my veins. I hit the gas pedal and the car came to a screeching halt. Swerving out of control, the car spun in circles and I held on tightly to the steering wheel. Holding my breath, I hoped I didn’t crash into the metal railing on the side of the highway.

“What the fuuuuuuuuck?!” I cursed as tried to figure out what in the hell was wrong with the car. Maybe I shouldn’t have gone to the casino after all.

There were no other cars to hit. Nobody to ask for help but the asshole in the other car somewhere behind me. I knew I was about to die. I could feel it in the way the vehicle kept circling with no clear direction, gliding me further down the interstate. Then everything stopped.

My heart pumped wildly in my chest so hard that I thought I was going to have a heart attack right here. I unlocked the door, and I heard something click. I turned around to see a flame burning across the seat. Thinking quickly, I tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge. I moved to the passenger seat and tried to push on that door, but nothing happened there either. The back doors didn’t even have handles any more.

What the fuck was happening?

There was a tap on the window and I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw Beni standing there. Then I realized this was no fucking coincidence. I kicked at the window and nothing happened. I kept kicking because my life depended on it. If the smoke in here didn’t kill me first, the fire sure as fuck would.

“After all she did for you, you helped put a hit out on Simone?” He asked through the glass.

“No!” I lied. Why did any of this matter when I was about to burn alive in this car?

“Liar. Cindy told me what you said. You told her exactly how to get into the club to get to her. What did you think, you’d get the life insurance policy you took out on her years ago?” He asked, but ignored him and focused on getting the hell out of her. Obviously, he wasn’t here to help.

Smoke filled my lungs, making me cough as I switched to the windshield. I needed something sharp. Something to penetrate the glass in one spot to break the tension. I opened the glove box, regretting that I didn’t keep that kit that Simone gave me for the car. I covered my mouth with the hand towel that was in there. But something was wet and sticky on it so I threw it on the floor.

Was that semen?

Raising my shirt, I tried to fight the fatigue settling in. The coughing came so quickly that my throat burned. Fire was licking at the seat and my eyes were watering from both the smoke and the coughing. The leathers stench fought with the smoke for dominance. Both of them never giving up.

I didn’t deserve this.

“You’re a slimy motherfucker that doesn’t deserve to see tomorrow. She really loved you and you’ve done nothing but hurt her. From cheating on her with several men to helping her attacker, you’ve never been the right man for her.”

“Open the fucking door!” I screamed at him, but it only burned my throat more.

The fire seemed to curl around me, setting the rest of the car on fire. Everything crackled, smoked, and closed me in. I closed my eyes and prayed for this to be a bad dream. Suddenly, I was sobbing in terror as the shock of what was happening settled in. I fought with everything I had, but it wasn’t enough.

Stuck in a box with no way out, I screamed for mercy and repented all my sins. As my life flashed before my eyes, I felt the fire the moment it struck my head. I fought it as it seemed to engulf me at all once. My voiced seemed to be drowned out by the flame’s song. No longer caring what I thrashed it, I gave it my all one last time to get out. Pain seared its name like a branding iron.

Then, just like that, all the pain was gone.

Boom.

ChapterSixteen

BENI

Istood there and watched the car burn with him inside. The motherfucker deserved that slow death. Maybe one even slower. I got inside the dummy car before Marcus and his lies exploded. I stopped by the chop shop to get rid of the car that I was in and the clothes.

Denny picked me up, and I met up with Massimo ten minutes before the check-in was supposed to happen with Cecil. When the phone rang, I answered it right away.

“It’s done.” I said to him.

“Good. Very good. We’re even DeLuca, but I’ll drop a bonus for you because I like you. Your father is talking to every family in Florida to find somebody ruthless enough to kill you. I don’t know what you’ve done to offend the man, but he’s got it out for you bad.”

“You’re lying.” I gritted my teeth, unwilling to believe what he said was true.

“Why would I do that when you’ve just been nice enough to do me a favor?” He hung up the phone, and I turned to Massimo.
