Her brows furrow. “Me? She fucking started this! Did you not hear what she said?”

“Yeah, I did! But that doesn’t mean you can fucking attack my employees!” I run my fingers through my hair as I glance at Riley to make sure she’s okay, and then focus back on Laiken. “Go the fuck upstairs. I’ll deal with you later.”

“Hayes,” she tries, but now isnotthe time.

“I said go!”

She rolls her eyes and huffs as she turns on her heels and marches upstairs. Once she’s gone, I turn to Riley and help her up.

“I am so sorry,” I tell her. “I don’t know what’s gotten into her lately.”

She stands up and tries to fix her clothes and hair. “I know exactly what’s gotten into her. She knows that you can do better, and she can’t handle it.”

I take a deep breath, looking around and silently thanking God that no customers were in here to see that. “Listen, if you want to head home, I get it. You can take the day, fully paid. No one should have to come to work and be attacked by their boss’s wife.”

Riley nods, wincing as she touches the top of her head. “Thanks, Hayes. I’ll do that.”

She goes into the back to grab her bag and then heads for the door, but just before she walks out, she stops and looks back at me.

“By the way, I hope afterthatyou see that she should be yourexwife,” she tells me. “You could have anyone you want. Even if it isn’t me.”

I nod once in understanding. “Feel better, Riley. And again, I really am sorry.”

She smiles at me, and I know she isn’t blaming me as she walks out. I give it a few minutes until I know she’s gone and then I lock the door and head upstairs.

Laiken is standing there, facing Cam and Mali, and I walk up behind her. My arms wrap around her, and I kiss the top of her head, looking down to see Cam putting the hair Laiken pulled out of Riley’s head into a bag. Meanwhile, Mali is carefully collecting the skin cells from under Laiken’s fingernails.

“Did she leave?” Lai asks me.

“Mm-hm.” I lean down and kiss her cheek. “I gave her the rest of the day off.”

“Good. I don’t want her around you.”

I chuckle, knowing that she may have been fighting her for a reason, but she definitely enjoyed getting to rough her up a little. “So, what happens now?”

“Now, we bring this to the lab, who will run a DNA profile against the hair we got from Theresa’s hairbrush,” Mali tells me.

Cam looks over at her with his brows raised. “Another one of your dark web things?”

“You told me to stay off the dark web.”

Which means it’s absolutely one of her dark web things. Tell Mali to do something and she will do the exact opposite.

Once they’re done collecting all of the DNA that Laiken was able to get off of Riley, I turn her toward me and look her over. I’ve got to hand it to her, for someone who just got into what could technically be considered their first bar fight, she barely has a scratch on her.

“You can say it,” she teases. “I’m a badass.”

I chuckle. “You’re a crazy ass is what you are.”

Pulling her closer, I press my lips to hers. She hums, grabbing the back of my neck and tugging me down. And it isn’t long until Cam complains about it.

“Is that really necessary?” He groans. “Don’t we all have shit to do?”

Mali giggles. “I don’t know. I’m starting to think it’s cute. They’ve gone through a lot to get here.”

Cam groans loudly. “Not you, too.”

He gets up and heads downstairs to unlock the door and manage the bar. Meanwhile, Laiken breaks the kiss and turns to Mali.
