No.

This can’t be happening.

I grip my hair tightly as I look around, hoping to see any trace of her, but there isn’t any.

“Who the hell hit you?”

The officer she was just talking to chimes in. “Like I told your friend, the car was reported stolen earlier this morning.”

“And where are they now?” Cam asks.

“They weren’t in the vehicle when we arrived,” he informs us. “My guess is they took off because they didn’t want to get arrested for grand theft auto.”

Cam and I lock eyes, and we both know that’s not the case.

This wasn’t a fucking freak accident.

This shit was intentional.

And now they have Laiken.

POLICE ALL OVER THEarea are out looking for her. There’s a BOLO with her description that was broadcasted over the radio, and they’ve assigned every officer they have available to search. Thankfully, her parents are on vacation in St Barts, or we’d have another mess on our hands.

According to what we were told, there have been instances where someone gets into an accident and the trauma causes them to wander away because they’re confused.

Basically, they think Laiken crawled from the wreckage and just walked off into the fucking sunset.

But we know the truth.

The paramedics told Mali that she should go to the hospital to get checked out, but she refused. Once they had her sign a form stating she was refusing medical treatment, she was free to go. And that’s when we started searching.

She could literally be anywhere. That’s the biggest problem. We tried asking the cars that were stuck in traffic if they saw the accident, but all of them said no. They only pulled up after the fact. Which means it’s possible that someone grabbed her from the car and took her somewhere.

At the advice of the police, we wind up at the local ER to see if someone saw her and brought her there. I don’t understand why they would leave Mali behind, but fuck it, I guess. It’s the only thing we have right now. But as Mali walks away from the desk and solemnly shakes her head, I feel like I’m shattering into a million pieces.

I walk through the automatic doors and over to the wall, putting my back against it as I slide down. There’s nothing like this kind of pain. It feels like her leaving all over again, but a million times worse. Because this time, I know it wasn’t her doing.

She was stolen from me.

Ripped away and taken somewhere, and I don’t know where the fuck to find her.

“Please, God,” I beg as the tears start to fall. “Please don’t take her from me. Give her back. I just want her back.”

Cam comes over and kneels down beside me, putting his hand on my shoulder. “We’re going to find her, H.”

But how can he promise that? We don’t even have a single inkling as to where she is. She could be fucking anywhere, including over an hour away at this point. And that’s if she’s still alive. When they took the hacker, we didn’t find him until he was dead and dumped in the middle of the bar.

If they do that with Laiken, I swear, I’ll die on the spot.

I meant it when I said that there’s no life for me without her. Not one I have any interest in living. I made it through when she was gone because I knew she was out there somewhere. But if I know she’s gone, there will be no part of me that wants to stick around.

Not without her.

Mali’s brows furrow as she pulls her phone out of her back pocket. Her eyes widen as she sees what it is, and then she hands it to Cam. His eyes move quickly across the screen before his head drops and he exhales.

“She was right,” he murmurs. “The DNA is a match. Riley is the half-sister of Montgomery Rollins.”

Rage flows through me, and all I can see is red. My vision starts to blur as I start to black out. That fucking bitch. If she were in front of me right now, I’d strangle her without an ounce of hesitation.
