“Stop it!” I growl as Landon cackles. “Don’t read my mind!”

Nolan stares at me. “I’m trying not to but what the fuck is going on? Now you’re thinking about the time Landon made you freeze time, and oh dear god… you werenaked?”

Landon’s eyes get huge. “Which time?”

“There was more than one?” Nolan asks.

“Please stop. Let’s please stay focused,” I beg.

“Fine…” Landon seems quite disappointed. “I thought for sure you hated me now or something.”

“I didn’t know Valerie made you leave. I was trying to figure out what happened and the next thing I knew, you were gone. But I was able to find proof of what you were saying,” I say.

“Wait, you did? I don’t have to blow a hole in the wall and break Nolan out before we break into the mayor’s home to steal all his money, become a new villain named Bow Before Me, Motherfuckers and live the rest of my life in the shadows?”

“Um… no? Were you going to do all of that?” I ask, minorly concerned.

“Maybe.”

“Then I will be right there with you if you ever decide to run,” I promise him.

Landon dramatically grabs Nolan’s heart. It’s a bit more of a chest slap than anything and Nolan seems quite unsure why he was subjected to the torture.

“Why?” Nolan asks.

“Did you hear how romantic that was?” Landon asks.

“I grudgingly did. Why didn’t you two bring me food?” he says as he gets up and heads over to his recliner that Landon bought him. Landon was horrified by the lack of luxury for his brother and made sure he had all the comforts he could have while stuck in this room.

Nolan looks over at Nemesis who has Zacia pinned to the ground while grooming her. “Your cat better not spread its naked germs onto mine,” he says.

“He could only ever dream of being as beautiful as Balzac.”

Nolan grunts but I decide that while Valerie is off doing what Valerie does best, I’ll order us some food. Spending time with Nolan seems to make Landon happy, and even if I feel a bit on edge around him, I find myself enjoying it more and more. Once it’s ordered, I sit down with the two of them at the table that’s crammed in the corner where I show them the cut video.

“You sure you didn’t stop time?” Nolan asks me. “Have you ever done it by accident?”

“I didn’t. I’m positive.”

Landon nods. “Yeah, August was frozen too. It just… it was so weird. It was like… at first everything seemed frozen, even Hannah, and then next she had a knife, and she was coming after August.”

“So someone was trying to fuck with your head,” Nolan says. “Someone wants you to look like the bad guy. Imagine if you killed her or something, which… I mean wouldn’t be unreasonable if she was trying to kill you, or so you thought.”

“Right. And I mean… god, if I thought she’d actually hurt August or could have killed him… I would have done so much worse,” Landon says.

“It’s definitely an interesting power,” Nolan says. “Please be careful.”

“I will be,” Landon promises. “In other news, did you see the picture of the guy I threw in the river?” He is so proud of this.

“I sure did. You should have dunked him a few times.”

Landon laughs like he could possibly think that is a good idea. They truly are brothers… and get far too much enjoyment out of strange things.

CHAPTERFOUR

LANDON

The moment I arrive home, I warily stare at the massive amount of people in my yard. There’s a weird mix of people who seem to hate me, people who seem to love me, and some uniformed men and woman.
