“Hmm.”

Shevon appears next to the table with a glass of water she places in front of Kaspian. “Hey, will you be having dinner?”

“Sure,” Kas replies. “I’ll have the pad Thai Thanks.”

“Of course. Anything else to drink?”

“No, I’m fine with water.”

“I’ll be back,” she replies cheerfully.

“Has she asked you about us?” He picks right back up with our conversation.

“Yes, a couple times.”

“Do you think she’s suspicious that we’re more than acquaintances?”

“Maybe,” I answer before taking a sip of my drink. “But why would she care?”

He brings his hands to the tabletop, his tattooed fingers tapping on the wood. “You may not believe me, but I think she’s into me.”

I digest that information. Initially, I didn't think that was the case, but recently it seems more likely. “And what? She’s jealous?”

He sits back, shrugging. “She knows I’m bi.”

“She doesn’t know about me.”

“She might assume. You have to admit that when we’re together we definitely have sexual energy charging between us. People might notice.”

“So then maybe you should let her know it’s not gonna happen between you two.”

He lifts a brow, amusement in his expression. “Are we going steady?” he asks in a teasing tone.

Shevon shows up with Kaspian’s plate of food and a refill of my Coke. “So, did you guys hear that Bill wasn’t the only one cheating?” She dives right back into some gossip. “Kathy decided to do a little stepping out of her own. Probably in retaliation, not that I condone it, but…” she grins, giving us a shrug. “Sometimes people need a taste of their own medicine.”

“Who?” Kaspian asks.

“I’ll fill you in later.”

“You guys need anything else?” Shevon asks.

“No. We’re good,” I answer.

“Who are Bill and Kathy?” Kas asks once she’s gone.

“Some middle-aged couple that was here last time I was. Shevon likes to fill me in on the town gossip. Just like some guy left town after being caught with a teenage girl, and some other girl took off over a guy, or possibly family problems.” I shake my head. “I don’t care about any of it, but you gotta act like you do sometimes.”

“There’s too much going on in this small ass town.”

I chew my food and take a drink before I speak again. “About Willow.”

“Ah. Yes. You want me to stop going out with her because you’re afraid she and I will fall in love and you’ll be left out, right?”

I give him an unamused look. “I’m afraid you’re going to get caught up in a situation that gets us both in trouble.”

He puts his fork down and crosses his arms on the table. “You think I’m obsessed with her.” He sounds frustrated. “Didn’t you hear me when I said the women I was with prior to you were simply to get your attention? You think I can’t control myself?”

“You killed them, didn’t you?” I whisper harshly, leaning forward. “Were you in control then? How about when you nearly ripped that man’s tongue from his mouth just for getting close to me? Is that being in control?”
