“Oh, you are ticklish?” he commented casually. She flushed red.

“Only a little. It’s funny that it even comes up. Nine times out of ten, I am immune. Having a slew of siblings means having a slew of physical assaults. I have been tickled to an inch from death.” They both laughed.

It caught her off guard when he asked what it was like to have siblings. She assumed, sometimes wrongly, that everyone had siblings.

He admitted that it was only him and his parents. It made her sad to think he grew up without the built-in friendships of siblings. He asked about her family, and she tried to explain a lifetime of siblings in a couple of breaths.

She was always so happy to talk about her brothers and sisters because it made her feel close to them. She didn’t have the opportunity to see them often, so it was easy for her to miss them more than she realized.

She was so caught up in her story that she missed the dreamy look in his eyes as he absorbed the words she spoke. The look was not lost on her attendants.

“So, tell me about your family.” Mila finally ended her tale with an inquiry.

“Well, as I mentioned, I grew up here in Ashland. We were a fairly wealthy family, and we were afforded a lot of opportunities that most people weren’t. My father had started the company many years ago, and I now run it, and the technology took the world by storm. However, one day, my parents got on a plane, and they didn’t come home. I was fifteen.”

Mila’s heart stopped in her chest. That’s more than half his life alone. She felt the need to wrap her arms around him and comfort any residual heartache out of him.

“I am so sorry for your loss. That’s horrible.” She placed a hand on his arm. He simply nodded and looked away. She quickly chose to move to another topic.

“What is your favorite thing to do around town?”

He brightened, seeing her leaving the painful topic behind.

“Well, one of my favorite things is to shift and run through the woods.”

“Oh.” Her eyes widened. She had forgotten that he was a shifter. He smiled at her surprise.

“Maybe I will have to take you out and show you.” He winked at her, and she was glad she was naked under this robe because her panties would have been soaked. If he is a shifter, does he have the ability to sense my arousal? Her arousal quickly turned to panic.

He cleared his throat and tilted his head. She let out a shaky breath.

“As I mentioned before, I love fishing in the lakes and hiking in the mountains. It’s wonderful exercise and allows you to relax into the joy of nature.”

She nodded with a small smile. She suddenly had visions of mountain hikes and picnics, being on top of a snowy mountain with her polar bear.Wait, why did I thinkmypolar bear … he isn’t mine …

She was sitting here in a spa, naked, next to a billionaire polar bear shifter, who was also naked, talking about their hobbies. Was this even leading to a job anymore? Was this a date?

He hadn’t expressed interest in her other than the casual conversations over the last day. He hadn’t asked her out on a real date unless that was what this was. Her head was starting to hurt.

They were told it was time for massages. Separate rooms … He stood and took off his robe. She held her breath until she realized his towel was wrapped around his waist. The attendants had all lowered their eyes respectfully, but Mila couldn’t peel her eyes away.

The rippling muscles across his back stoked her feelings of desire again. He turned to toss his robe back on the chair he was sitting in.

“You coming?”

His pecs were just as strong, with his nipples slightly erect. That instantly made her own nipples erect. She felt stirrings all the way into her core as she took his hand to help her up. She suddenly wished they were going to the same room.

She licked her lips and looked back at the attendants when he turned his back to walk ahead. Connie gave her a wink and nodded toward Cyrus. Mila took a deep breath, trying to quiet the visions of their naked bodies writhing against each other.

She was in trouble.

EIGHT

CYRUS

After their spa treatments, it was time to eat. And he had the perfect idea to keep her near him.

Cyrus kept his eyes on Mila. A small voice in his head implored him to burn every emotion that crossed her face into his memories. Her large, dark eyes hid nothing, shamelessly indulging in her curiosity, wonder, suspicion, and joy. She was confident and shy, bold and timid. A mixture he would have never found so intoxicating in any other woman. But she wasn’t just any woman.
