“Yes.”

“Did you give her ecstasy and tell her to use it on Logan so that she could seduce him?”

“Yes.”

“Did you convince her to blackmail him into having an affair?”

“I didn’t convince her, but I did plant the idea in her mind.”

She lets out a shuddered breath and continues, “What else?”

“What do you mean?”

“Is there anything else I should know? I want it all on the table. What else did you do?”

Silence hangs in the air while she waits for my answer, the cold, almost robotic nature of her tone slicing through me like a knife. She wants me to lay my sins bare, and I take a deep breath, preparing myself to confess them all.

“I blackmailed Miss Brennan into making us partners on the English paper.”

Her eyes go wide. “With what?”

“She’s been sleeping with a student. I told her I would expose the affair if she didn’t do as I asked.”

“Who?—” She pauses, then holds her hand up, shaking her head. “You know what? I don’t want to know.” Running her fingers through her hair, she starts pacing back and forth, nervously biting on her nails as if trying to figure out how to process it all before finally stopping and pinning me with a disgusted look. “Do you have any idea how messed up this is?”

“I know.” I drop my head in shame.

“I don’t know how to make sense of this, Mason.” She starts pacing again. “I mean… this is like some kind ofThe Talented Mr. Ripleyshit.”

“I know.” It’s all I can say. How do I even begin to explain this? Where do I start?

She stops in front of me, the pain etched on her face punching straight through my chest. “Why?” Her voice cracks. “Why would you do this? Was this some kind of twisted game you played to fuck with my life?”

“What?” I gasp, shocked that she would even consider that a possibility. It’s so far from the truth. “No! Of course not.”

“Bullshit!” she cries, eyes brimming with tears. “I don’t believe you. You broke Logan and me up then made me fall in love with you, only to break my heart, so you could get some kind of justice for Lily being bullied by my friends, didn’t you?”

“No!... Fuck no. I don’t give a shit about Lily. I did this because I wanted you. I’ve always wanted you. From the very first day I saw you.”

“Then why didn’t you just talk to me? Why do all of this?”

“I wanted to. So many times, but you were always with Logan. He was… in the way.”

“So you decided to get him out of the way?”

I nod my head, and her eyes flash with anger.

“Then why did I find you in bed with Hadley?”

“I-I don’t know,” I stammer, digging my nails into my palms, my inability to remember how that happened frustrating the fuck out of me. “I don’t remember. I was looking for you, and the next thing I know, I’m on the bed with Hadley on top—”

“Stop!” She holds up her hand. “Spare me the details.”

“There are no details. That is all I remember. I blacked out and woke up this morning with Hadley on top of me and—”

“I said stop,” she screams, tears streaming down her face. “I said I don’t want to know.”

“Baby, there is nothing more to tell. I don’t remember anything. I don’t remember sleeping with her.”
