“Why did you get a sparrow?”

“It’s Blake,” I reply, looking down and watching his finger move over the wings. “The sparrow symbolizes freedom. During his last days, I could see a yearning in his eyes—” I pause, feeling my chest tighten at the memory but determined to push forward; I take a calm breath and continue. “He craved to be free of the body that was slowly killing him. He was so tired but still had so much desire to live. A desire to soar and be free. So I got this for him. This is how I imagine him living now. A sparrow in the sky, soaring high and flying free.”

Our eyes meet, and a flicker of emotion crosses over Mason’s features before quickly disappearing.

“Do you believe in reincarnation?” I ask.

“I’m not sure,” he sighs, averting his gaze as if pondering the thought. “My mom sure does, and if it exists, then Nix was definitely a monkey in his past life and will be one again in the next.”

I giggle, and his lips curl in mirth. “The ancient Egyptians believed sparrows helped lost souls find their way to heaven, protecting them and guiding them in the right direction. Blake had such a big heart. He was never one to turn a blind eye to someone in need and never hesitated to help anyone. Regardless of who they were. That is what I imagine him doing right now. Flying high in the sky. A sparrow helping all those misguided souls to find their peace. When I die, I hope to be reincarnated as a sparrow so I can join him.”

“Can I come too?” Mason asks.

“Of course.” I smile, reaching up and cupping his face. He closes his eyes and nuzzles into my palm, the coarseness of his day-old stubble scraping along my skin. “I love you, Mason.”

His eyes squeeze in reverence before opening and looking at me, pained. “I’m so sorry I hurt you. I promise you I will nevereverdo anything to hurt you again, and I will spend the rest of my life proving that to you.”

I cup his cheek, smoothing my hand over the stubble. “I trust you. I know you won’t hurt me, and I don’t want you to carry the guilt of what happened in the past anymore. I want us to move forward. No secrets, no lies, just you and me starting a new chapter. Together.”

He smiles at me adoringly, and my stomach does a little flip

I can’t believe he still has that effect on me.

“Just you and me?”

Nodding my head in agreement. “Just you and me.”

I shift my hips to remove his cock from inside me, but his hand grips my backside and holds me in place. “No.”

“No?”

“I’m staying buried inside you all night.”

I let out a groan. “The last time we did that, I couldn’t walk properly for three days!!”

“Is that all?” He arches a brow teasingly. “Well, I’m going for seven this time.”

I grab his nipple, giving it a twist, and he lets out a hiss. “Damn! Are you a sadist, baby?”

“Are you a masochist?” I counter.

He flashes me a devilish smirk. “You wanna spank me and find out?”

“You’re incorrigible.”

“I’m smitten.” He playfully nips my bottom lip.

“You’re insatiable.”

“I’m madly in love.” His tone turned serious, and my stomach flutters at the intensity of his gaze. “You’re it for me, Flower. You are my everything.”

My heart melts and I smile at him. “And you are mine. I love you so much, Mason. I have never loved anyone the way I love you.”

“Good,” he says, rolling on top of me and burying his face in my neck. “Now we have some catching up to do.”

“Catching up?”

“Uh-huh,” he mumbles against my skin, placing small kisses below my ear, “We have two weeks, four days, and five hours of lovemaking to catch up on.”
