Rolling onto my back, I let out a yawn and stretch my limbs, then hear my phone beep from my bedside table. Picking it up and swiping it open, I blink several times to clear my sleep-induced haze and smile when I see a message from Mason.

Mason: There once was a girl so incredibly hot.She had my stomach twisted into a knot. When I arrive at school.I will be grinning like a fool.As I wait for her in the parking lot.

I giggle, reading his limerick. I haven’t played around with limericks since grade school, and tapping my phone on my chin, I sift through the early morning mental fog, trying to think of a response.

Me: There once was a guy who made me swoon.Steals my attention like a bright full moon.I have so much to say.But must get ready for the day.As I really can’t wait to see him soon.

Mason: I can’t wait to see you too, Flower.

A sudden burst of energy has me jumping out of bed and heading to the bathroom to get ready for my day. Today is the day we are officially going public with our relationship. I have no doubt that it won’t go down well with a certain someone. But whatever happens, we will face it together.

“Where didyou disappear to with Grayson on Saturday night?” Chelsea asks Cadence as we drive to school. Apparently, I missed the party of the year at Grayson’s house on the weekend.

“Where do you think we disappeared to?” she asks casually as she touches up her lipstick in front of the compact mirror held in her hand.

“This has been going on for over a year. When are you two going to make it official?”

Cadence scoffs like she is an idiot. “Never. We have an agreement that works for both of us.”

“What like some kind of fuck-buddy agreement?”

“Exactly!” Cadence responds wryly, choosing to ignore the judgment laced in Chelsea’s tone. “We fuck each other when we need to. No strings attached and no bullshit. It’s the perfect arrangement.”

Cadence and Grayson have been fuck buddies for over a year. And even though they have amazing chemistry, they refuse to take things to the next level. I have never understood how two people can separate feelings from sex. To me, it’s the most intimate bond two people can share, and I guess I’m just not wired to shut my emotions off from it.

I have wondered what will happen when they meet someone they actually want to have a relationship with, thus ending thisarrangementbetween them.

Could they really walk away from each other that easily? I guess when the time comes, we will see.

“So, Lyns.” Cadence changes the subject. “I heard Nate is having a party in a couple of weeks, and I expect both you and Ava to be there this time. I still can’t believe you didn’t come Saturday night.”

My gaze darts to Lyndsey beside me.

She didn’t go Saturday night?

It’s not like her to miss a party.

“So, Ava!” Cadence suddenly barks at me, startling my attention back to her. “Where were you on Saturday night?”

“I was with Mason,” I reply, figuring now is as good a time as any to let the cat out of the bag.

“Oh really?” she draws out huskily. “So, have you guys hooked up yet?”

“Yes, actually we have,” I confess without hesitation, dropping the bomb and sitting back, waiting for it to explode.

“What the fuck!” Cadence squeals, and I wince as her high-pitched voice rips through my eardrums. “I knew it! Chelsea, you owe me fifty bucks!”

“What the hell, Ava?” Chelsea whines. “Why didn’t you say anything before?”

“Why do you owe Cadence fifty bucks?”

“We made a bet on whether anything was going on between you two. As you can see, I lost,” she grumbles.

“We only made it official this weekend,” I inform her, then glance at Lyndsey, who is watching me with a frown before turning her attention back to the road.

“So, are you guys officially a couple then?” Cadence asks.
