I start with a round of punching to warm up before combining it with kicking.

“Damn, that new paint job has certainly lit the fire in your belly. You keep this up, and you might make it out of the cage fight alive,” James taunts, moving slowly around the mat as I follow.

“That’s the plan.” I punch the shield twice.

“So I’ve been meaning to ask you, how’s Aliana these days?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Is she eighteen yet?” He waggles his eyebrows

“Are you trying to land me a stint in your second home?” I hit the shield hard, pushing him back slightly, and he grunts.

“Hey. I just appreciate talent when I see it.”

“She’s way out of your league.”

“Aww. You’re hurting my feelings,” he whines, feigning offense. “So speaking of talent, have you bagged that hot cheerleader of yours yet?”

“Boring,” he groans, rolling his eyes. “So it’s love then, huh?”

“You have no idea,” I reply, kicking the shield.

“Why don’t you ask her to come to the fight?”

“Why would I do that?” I ask, stopping to wipe the sweat from my brow with my forearm.

“Dude! Do you know anything about women? Chicks love seeing dudes beat the shit out of each other. It gets them all hot and bothered. She will be panting like a dog and ready to jump your bones by the end of the night.”

“Ready to swap?” I ask, ignoring his unnecessary advice and removing my gloves. I take the shield from him as he gloves up.

“So,” he says, punching the shield. “She got any hot friends? Maybe she could bring them along to the fight?”

“I will see what I can do.”

“Seriously, man, don’t hold out on me. If this chick is as hot as you say she is, then I’m guessing her friends are also banging hot. Those broads stick together.”

“If you say so.”

He frowns. “Haven’t you ever checked them out?”

“Nope.”

“Damn.” He whistles, shaking his head. “You really have got it bad.”

I couldn’t agree with him more

I’m completely fucking gone.

It’s Friday afternoon, and Ava came straight over after school with a bag packed ready for our weekend at the harbor. This last week at school has been eerily calm. The constant stream of attacks I was subjected to previously has ceased. The football team has backed off, and school has been somewhat peaceful.

Eric told me that after my truck was vandalized, the guys felt I had suffered enough and refused to partake in any more of Logan’s bullshit.

While I’m glad to get a break from it, part of me was hoping Logan would try something just so I had an excuse to gift the fucker with a black eye. In fact, I thought about just doing it anyway, just for the hell of it. But since he has backed off, Ava has been the happiest I have ever seen her.
