“So are yours.”

“Braces.”

“I was lucky and didn’t need them.”

“Good for you.”

He chuckles. “Yeah, because we can control whether or not our teeth come in crooked.”

“Of course not, but there’s a lot we can control… and a lot more that we can’t.”

“Just gotta roll with the punches.”

I duck my head. I can’t get the mental image of us rolling around in bed together.

“Which port of call was your favorite?” I ask.

“All of them.”

“That’s cheating,” I protest.

“Which was yours?”

“Today’s.”

“Why?”

“The ruins.”

“Nice. A big fan of history?”

"It was actually a good bit of hiking too," I say. "It was nice to be able to find a reward at the end."

“Have you gone hiking a lot before?”

“No. Just once or twice. I mean, we would have a picnic at the end, but to see the ruins was so much better than just food, but speaking of food…”

“Looking forward to your second to last dinner here?” he asks.

“Yes, actually.”

My mom mentioned that we might get a bottle of wine during our last dinner. I don’t care if we do or not. This entire venture has been amazing, and I really am starting to have hope that everything is going to be smooth sailing from here on out, and I don’t just mean the day at sea and returning to Texas. I mean with college for me and Europe for my mom. My father is going to be left in the dust far behind us, and our lives will be so much better off for it.

“You look like you’re thinking about after,” he says.

“Maybe,” I say, a bit surprised that he can read me so easily. “What do you have to look forward to?”

“Life.” He chuckles.

I roll my eyes. Neither of us has done much more than flirt with each another. We don't give personal details, and I don't even know his last name, but that's all right. This isn't a friendship-type thing. It might be at most a one-night stand type thing, and who knows? We're running out of time so it might not even be that.

Just two ships passing each other at night like we’ve done this entire cruise.

“I hope you have plans for your life to be as much fun as this cruise,” I say lightly.

“Oh, I have plans all right.” He chuckles again, but he doesn’t offer any more details.

I can't help wondering about him and what his life will be like from here. Does he live in Texas? Some people will travel to the port from afar. Does he go to college? He might've graduated. I can't tell for sure what his age is, and the more I stare at him, the more I realize my gaze keeps falling to his lips… his full lips… his lips I want to kiss…
