“Who are you going to pick to be king?” Ashley leaned forward, her eyes dancing with the lights.

“Ugh.” My lip lifted in a half growl. “Martin is too immature, and Miles’ mane isn’t full yet.”

“Totally.” Heather nodded in agreement.

“What about Jax?” Tammy pressed her thighs together. “He’s so big.”

“He hates me.”

“Oh no he doesn’t.” She purred. “He just likes more… aggressive girls.”

“That leaves Ace and Draven.” Brittany fanned herself. “Unless you want someone older.”

“Ewww.” They all scrunched up their noses.

“Who wants a lion with low hanging balls?” Sabrina laughed. “Oh! We almost forgot your gift.”

The girls squealed in delight as she handed me the box. The bright green wrapping paper tickled my fingertips as I tore into it. Brushing the paper aside, I lifted the lid and saw a collar with a name tag attached.

The gems sparkled in the cove’s light, and I realized immediately it was from Shimmering Jewels. Vincent Von Carter had a gift with gems and jewelry design, and all of his pieces were one of a kind.

There were no words as I looked around at them all. Each of them had a collar from there and jealousy ate me up inside. My father felt it would be a waste to spend money on something so fanciful.

Tammy had pink diamonds, Brittany had sapphires, Sabrina had opals, Heather had rubies and Ashley had emeralds, but the one for me had a mix of all the gems with a titanium name tag that said, “Pricilla”.

“It’s beautiful!” My fingers were afraid to touch it.

“We never want you to forget this moment.” Tammy sat stoically. “You should put it on.”

I felt every bit like I imagine a queen would feel donning her crown. My cup had more cream in it, so I drank it down and lifted the collar, bringing it up to my neck.

“That’s going to look smashing on you!” Brittany winked.

A wave of dizziness washed over me and I felt hands hold my arms. “Easy there.”

“I’m okay.” I nodded. “Just overwhelmed.”

“What are you waiting for, then? Put it on and let’s go outside so you can see your reflection.” Ashley bounced in place.

I unclasped it and brought it up to my neck. “I can’t thank you all enough.”

“Don’t worry. I’m sure we’ll think ofsomething.” Tammy smiled and the look in her eyes changed the moment I clasped it.

The collar fit perfectly, and we all jumped up to run outside to look in the water. The closer I got to the waterfall, the louder I heard voices chanting. We slipped to the side and came out to see the boys waiting for us.

I glanced down and marveled at the beauty before I felt another dizzy spell travel through me. The surrounding air gleamed and my body lifted from the ground. I willed my hands to move, my voice to yell, but nothing happened.

My bones broke and shifted painfully as I spun in the air and when I came down there, I yelled, but instead of words, a roar took its place. I snapped my head back to the water to see a full lioness looking back at me.

Gone were my fingers and toes. Instead of two legs, I had four. And paws.Big. Clumsy. Paws.

Fear choked me as laughter came at me from all directions. Taunts and jeers accompanied the chaos and then they took turns chucking eggs and rotten fruit at me. They chased me in circles until I fell over in a trembling heap, unable to move.

Tammy crouched beside me and her head popped back like a Pez candy dispenser, and her nasty laugh filled my ears. “Oh! I guess I already thought of something.”

“Sissy Prissy, thinking we would actually want to be her friends.” Another voice taunted.

“As if any of us would want to fuck her.” Jax’s voice speared through my heart.
