I sat back and heaved a sigh as the chariot zipped along to my office. When we got there, I paid him and went in the backdoor. Usually I would walk through and greet everyone. Today I wanted to be left alone.

Making it to my office with no one noticing worked until I opened the door and found Vincent and Ralph waiting for me. My friends were seated in the two leather chairs in front of my desk.

“Seriously?” I groaned and walked over to my desk.

Vincent tilted his head. “What’s wrong?”

I dropped into my chair and shook my head. “I woke up next to a naked woman.”

They both sat there quietly.

“It gets even better.” I sat forward and folded my hands on my desk. “She claimed to be my Pricilla.”

Ralph and Vincent turned to look at each other before looking back at me. Then Ralph held up his hand like we had to when we were young and in school.

“Did she look like the lion people of Oz?”

“Kinda. She wasn’t as homely. This woman was beautiful.” I sat back and rubbed my hands down my face. “But Pricilla is a cat.”

“Did you see your cat anywhere?” Vincent asked, tapping away on his phone.

“No.” I huffed and my jaw hit the desk when he turned his phone and showed me a picture of the woman I woke up beside. “Who is she?”

“Princess Pricilla Cowardly.” He sat back, looking proud of himself. “I made a few calls. The person who commissioned the collar also made a deal with the wicked witch.”

“She had it cursed.” Ralph nodded. “You’ve had the princess this entire time.”

I looked down at my hands and realized the breast I played with this morning belonged to my cat, who wasn’t a cat.

“What if she wants to go home?” I whispered.

“You could get another cat.” Vincent shrugged. “After all, she’s just a pet.”

Ralph nodded in agreement. “Exactly. It’s not like you’rein lovewith a cat.”

I looked up slowly, and they both smiled.

“I knew it.” Vincent made a fist and pumped the air. “She stole your heart from the start.”

“How do you know?” I felt my chest tighten thinking about her leaving.

“Because you wished she was a shifter.” His voice softened. “And her curse became your true fortune.”

“But…” I sat back and wiped a tear away. “What if she wants to leave? What if she just wants to be my… pet?” I felt my face twist with disgust. “I can’t keep a princess as a pet.”

Ralph laughed. “No, but knowing she’s a woman, you could take care of her now without us teasing your perverted ass!”

I jumped up from my chair. “I need to go home and talk to her.”

Vincent grabbed my arm as I walked around my antique desk that my great-great-great-grandfather crafted. “Frank, you’re emotional. I’m sure she is as well. Stay and work and give you both some time to think.”

I swallowed hard and looked at my best friend. “I think I’m in love with her.”

“You don’t even know her.” Ralph sat forward. “You only know her as a cat.”

“Look, Frank, I’m not saying you are or aren’t. I’m saying talk to her and see how you both feel.”

With a sigh, I patted my friend’s shoulder and went back to sit down. “You’re right.”
