The call ended and my girl wrapped her arms around me. “Thank you!”

“What are you thanking me for?” I rubbed her back to help her calm down.

“I didn’t know how much I missed her until I heard her voice. And now she’s coming here.”

I pulled back and wiped the tears from her face. “Let’s shower and get ready for her arrival.”

“That sounds fabulous.” She stood up and held her hand out for mine.

I covered her hand, grasping it, and let her lead me to the shower. Since we were having company, we refrained from letting our passion take over and then got out to await her arrival.

It wasn’t even an hour later that I heard a soft knock at the door and I walked over to see Pricilla’s mom. She had the same amber eyes, but a different skin tone. Where my Pricilla had a deeper honey tone compared to her mother’s pale, almost white skin.

I call it skin. I’m not sure how else to describe it. There’s a fine layer of fur that coats them, but it feels like skin.

“Hello, Missus Cowardly, Please, come in.”

She looked me up and down as though I was a piece of meat. “Are you Frank?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“And you saved my daughter?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Then please, call me Gretchen.” She stepped up and wrapped her arms around me, and I felt her body shake with sobs.

“Let’s get you inside.” I kept my arm around her and walked her into the sunroom where Pricilla sat on the bench in the window. “Cilla?”

“Mom!” She jumped up and ran over to embrace her.

“Oh. Pricilla!” Her mom sobbed harder. “I never thought I’d ever see my daughter again.”

I turned to leave them alone, and they both reached for me. “Stay.”

With a nod, I pulled them both to me and wrapped my arms around them. “Would you like to sit down?”

They both nodded, and we all took a seat at the table. “We probably should get a couch in here.”

“Or build a parlor.” Pricilla laughed.

“Consider it done, love.” I winked and sat back in my chair.

“Pricilla. Every. Day. I cried, wondering what happened to you. I thought I knew my daughter better than for her to get up and run away. But that’s what some people in the pride thought.”

“Frank!” I heard my door open. “Cilla!”

“In the sunroom, Vincent.” I gave both women an apologetic look.

“Vincent and Ralph are Frank’s best friends.” Pricilla smiled at her mom.

“There you both are.” Vincent walked in, followed by Ralph.

“Missus Cowardly.” Ralph came over and took her hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it. “So good to see you up here!”

Gretchen moved her gaze from Ralph to me. “Are you Franklin Hammer?”

“Yes, ma’am.” I nodded.
