“Oh yes. Thank you.”

I took my time and got to know the sweet Princess Gerbera better, making plans to meet within a month for a fitting. I watched as she shrunk back down and flitted away, and then I made my way back to the castle. Once I got closer, I saw Frank walking towards me.

“I missed you.” He cupped my face and pressed a soft kiss to my lips.

After yesterday, I was so confused. Now he wanted me again?

“I missed you too. I woke up and wasn’t feeling well. I needed air.”

“How are you feeling now?”

“Wonderful.” I shrugged.

He linked our hands, and we continued our walk, until we got to the most beautiful wishing well I had ever seen. Ivy grew around the stone base and up the sides to the little roof that covered the bucket and crank.

Small wildflowers popped up through some places in the ivy and you could feel the magic radiating from it.

“This place is so amazing.” I smiled and looked down at the well.

When I looked back at Frank, he was on one knee, with a small box open. “Will you marry me?”

My eyes fluttered, and I felt my face go slack. “Frank?”

“I love you and I have been in love with you since the day I saw you at the sanctuary. I can’t see my life with anyone else. Will you please be my wife?”

My eyes blinked a few times, and I felt the tears threatening to fall. After his lie yesterday, and what the women said in the workroom, I didn’t know what to believe. “I can’t.”

“Pricilla?” His face fell in heartbreak and confusion.

“Frank, you lied to me yesterday. How can I trust you? And I heard about your plans for a new home. To get away from me. I can’t.” I turned my back on him and ran away back to the woods.

I needed to put as much distance as I could between us. I love him. So much. But I couldn’t marry someone just to be let down when they planned to leave.

Frank

I watched the love of my life run from me, and I fell to the ground sobbing. I couldn’t even think what lie I told her. The house wasn’t to get away from her. It would be a gift to my wife.

The ring box sat next to me and I snapped the box closed, throwing it in the well.

If she would give me a chance, I could clear all this up.But would she even listen?

“Frank?” Ralph’s voice called out behind me. When he reached me, he dropped to his knees. “What happened?”

“She said no.”

“She what?” His face came into my teary view, screwed up in confusion.

I sniffled and sat up. “She said I lied to her, and that she heard I was building a house to get away from her.”

“That makes no sense.”

I shrugged and let out a howl of pain that matched my heart. My friend hugged me and let me cry on his shoulder until I couldn’t cry anymore. He helped me up, and we walked back to the palace.

Vincent met up with us. Ralph paraphrased everything and they helped me move my things from our room to a room to be alone.

We could get through the wedding tomorrow and then we head back to the clouds and I would help her do what she needed to fulfill her dreams. If I couldn’t be her husband, I at least wanted to see her success from the shadows.

Tonight we had the coronation. My friends let me have some time to myself and I took a nap before showering and joining them all at the party.
