That’s when I felt the dart in my side. I bit down with what little strength I had, puncturing her throat shallowly before darkness consumed me and I fell to the side.

Chapter Eighteen

Frank

I had consumed a few glasses of the special punch, and felt the room tilt around me. “What’s in this?”

“A god made it, who knows.” Vincent laughed.

My eyes scanned the crowd, but I didn’t see Pricilla anywhere. I turned to my friends and couldn’t stop the word vomit from happening. “I’m so happy for her. You know that. I’m happy and proud and I don’t want anything to stand in the way of her dreams.” I toed the ground. “And I never cared about the curse. Woman or cat, she’s amazing.”

“Frank? Are you okay?” Ralph asked, slipping the punch glass from my hand.

“I love her tongue, and her curves, and her freaky side.” I sniffled.

“I don’t understand.” Vincent shook his head. “Why would she think you lied to her?”

A loud group of people rushed us, lifted me up, carrying me off.

Once we were across the room, they put me down in front of a strapping young man. He smiled at me and pulled me in for a hug. “Frank!”

I pulled back and looked at him, not recognizing him at all. “I’m sorry. I seem to have forgotten your name.”

With a laugh, he clasped my shoulder. “No. You’ve only seen me in my natural form as a bull.”

He was a bull? Holy cats! It was my old friend, Joe Bull.

“Joe!”

“Frank!”

We embraced again and then I looked around. “What’s going on?”

“I got married!” His green eyes twinkled and his chest puffed with pride as a dark, beautiful woman with long black hair stepped up. “Nadia! This is who made our furniture.”

“Ah, hello, Franklin Hammer. You also made the furniture for the Djinn palace in Cloud City. I’m King Idris’ daughter Nadia Bull.”

“What a pleasure to meet you. I remember crafting your princess’ bed.” I sighed.

She bowed to me and then held out her hand. “I have been looking for you. Princess Gerbera was very taken with your Pricilla and she gave me a gift for you.”

My head swam with the alcohol I’d consumed and I laughed. “I’m sorry. Who is Princess Gerbera?”

“Pricilla will know.” She took my hand and pressed my engagement ring box into it. “They need you. Don’t give up hope.”

I looked down at the ring and smiled. “Could you please tell Princess Gerbera I said thank you?”

“I will, and you can tell her yourself when you meet next month. She’s getting a Cilla Cee garment.”

“I look forward to it.” I gave Nadia a hug, then gave Joe another hug.

“Have fun, my friend!” He patted me on my back, and I wanted to find Pricilla. I needed to set her straight.

Walking a straight line proved to be somewhat difficult, and people kept stopping me to talk. Frustration set in, as you could only shake so many hands and make small talk so much before you were ready to open fire on the crowd and rampage.

Thankfully, I made it back to my friends before I lost my temper.

“I need to talk to my Cilla.” I took a deep breath and walked into the wall.
