“Nope. I amnotmarried.”

“Yes, you are, liar,” Keon whispered.

“Almost,” Akoni whispered in my other ear.

“Soon now,” Keon agreed.

I threw a pillow at Keon and shoved Akoni back. “I’ve got a harem of men.”

“I can see that. They don’t know about each other and if you leave the island, your house of cocks will fall apart?”

“House of cocks?” Keon whispered to Akoni, who was moving his jaw but making no noises.

“Itoldyou it was genetic,” Auryn whispered.

Akoni pointed at me with both hands while looking at Auryn. “But, but—”

“You have no idea what you’re in for if we go,” Auryn said smugly. “Noidea.”

“What parent sayshouse of cocks!” Akoni finally gasped.

“Mom,neversay ‘house of cocks’ ever again.” I winced. “Especially not when you’re leaning into your southern accent.”

She laughed at me. “So they know each other. Tell them they can do without you for a week. They look like functional adults.Veryfunctional.”

Now Keon gasped and Akoni made a noise like air rushing out of a balloon while Auryn just nodded along.

“Mom, things down here are serious, and if I’m going to do a family reunion, I’m bringingallof them along. I’d like you to meet them. And I absolutely cannot let one of them think the other is more presentable than the others.”

“Although I amclearlythe most presentable of them all,” Akoni said smugly, having recovered and caught up.

Mom pondered and said, “Well, how many are there? Just the two or—”

“Explosion in 3… 2…” Akoni predicted.

“Akoni, Keon, and… Auryn,” I said.

I had to hold my phone away from my ear while she screamed. “I knew it! I KNEW YOU WERE WITH HIM AGAIN!”

Akoni looked at Keon. “I did not actually think she would explode.”

“I told you they hated him.”

“Your gift of understatement is as vast as your scales are thick.”

“Thanks.”

Mom settled down, and I was able to get a word in. “I understand if it’d be easier for me to stay here. Auryn stays off social media because he knows Dad has a price on his head, and Keon has clients in North America.”

“Clients?”

“He’s an engineer too. Marine systems and conservation, Ph.D., all that. Even has and wears his iron ring. He’s Auryn’s cousin.”

Mom sighed from her soul. “How is Aurynnotart on your wall at this point?”

“That’s averyweird and long story.”

She sighed again. “Fine. Not sure what we’ll tell the family but…”
