Max’s two agents wedge themselves in the front seats and tear out of the parking lot at speeds that make my driving look like nothing.

Carra’s clinging to me like a baby Koala. “It’s okay, sweetheart. Everything is okay.”

“I didn’t know what to do when his men grabbed me.”

“I’m sorry. We didn’t think he would.”

From the front seat, the driver says, “Max was ready, though. We intercepted Coghlan’s men as soon as they stepped out of that dressing room.”

“Thank fuck,” I breathe as I press my face into sweet-smelling hair.

“Let me look at you.” I pull back and hold Carra at arm's length. The knot in my throat grows instantly. “My god. Look at this. Like the rays of sunrise on a fine spring morning. Only prettier than I’ve ever seen. All mine too. I’m one lucky fucking bastard.”

Carra blinks up at me and I lose myself a thousand times in those pretty eyes.

I cup her face in my hands. “You’re safe. I know you’re in shock right now. But I’ve got you.”

Thick tears bloom on her lashes. “I know. It’s just... I just need a minute to process everything.”

I twine my fingers with hers, holding her tight. Then lean in and kiss her cheek. “Take all the time you need, sweetheart. We’ve got all the time in the world.”

“Where are we going?”

“The airport. It was a last-minute change today; in case anyone was betraying us to someone in Coghlan’s group.”

“You think it’s safe, now that everyone is being taken into custody?”

I raise our clasped hands and kiss the back of her knuckles. “That’s how we planned it. Course we’ll be careful. I’ll tell you more when we’re on the plane.”

We don’t stop until we roar into the airport terminal. On the tarmac is the same plane we flew in before, sleek, gleaming and ready to get us the fuck out of here.

I lead Carra up, minding her train, holding her hand, grinning like a fucking fool if there ever was one. Damn if she isn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.

When we reach the landing, I spin her in my arms. “Kiss me, fiancée.”

Letting out a little nervous breath, she leans into me. “I’m kind of a basket case right now.”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to think.” I drop my mouth to hers, tip her chin up, and kiss the only woman I’ve ever craved.

We forget where we are. I mold her body, palms pressing against the delicate beads of her dress, as I pull her tighter in my hold.

A clearing throat drags me back from heaven. “Ready to take off?”

The captain is leaning against the bulkhead, a gentle grin on his weathered face.

“Aye. You’ll have to forgive us.”

“There is a bedroom in the back, you know?” he says with a laugh.

“Saving the Mile High Club for after, on the return trip.”

Carra’s gaze flashes up to mine, “After what?”

I guide her to the seat by the window and arrange her dress before helping her buckle in. “After we get married in Vegas.”

In a flash, the worry is gone, and the delight is back in her beautiful eyes. “You’re kidding?”

I remove my coat and lay it over the seat. “Nope. Just you and me.” When I reach into the envelope laying on the seat beside me, she watches with a curious tilt to her head.
