“That looks better already,” I tell her and she pulls her shirt back down. “Do you drink coffee?” I ask, trying to hide how disappointed I am that she doesn’t feel comfortable with me yet.

“I’m, well, I was a college student. Of course, I drink coffee,” she grins.

I pour her a cup and set it on the counter. She comes over and hops up onto a stool. She takes a sip from the cup. “I’m sorry about last night.”

“Sorry about what?” I ask her.

“I didn’t mean to put you in an awkward position with the kiss and falling asleep on you,” she replies.

“Awkward?” I ask.

“Yeah, I mean, I know you don’t like me. You’re just keeping me here so I live long enough to help you solve the case, right?”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing, and I scan her face for some indication of why she feels this way. “Do you think that I didn’t want to kiss you, little girl?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t exactly give you much choice,” she shrugs, looking down into her coffee cup.

I lean across the counter and grab both of her hands. “I don’t kiss women that I don’t want to kiss. Believe me, I wanted to do a lot more than kiss you.”

Her cheeks turn red and she smiles, “Okay, good to know.”

“I have to go to the precinct for a couple of hours. Then, I’m going to my place and the grocery store. Cell service is iffy out here, but put my number in your phone and call me if you think of anything else you might need,” I tell her.

I put my cup in the sink and collect my things from the counter. She gets up and steps in front of me. She looks up at me and says, “Hurry back, please.”

I gaze down at her hardened nipples and groan as my manhood twitches in my pants. She’s waiting for me to kiss her so I put my arm around her waist and pull her body against mine so she can feel what she’s doing to me.

Her eyes grow wide when my cock rubs against her thigh. I think,‘Be careful what you wish for, little girl’, and kiss her goodbye.

I arriveat the precinct prepared to fill the Chief in on what’s happened, but word has already spread to him. He meets me at my office door and asks, “Where’s your witness?”

“She’s somewhere safe,” I answer as I walk through the door.

“I didn’t approve of a safe house,” he says, following me inside.

“I didn’t request a safe house. I had a safe place for her and the City doesn’t have to pay for it,” I reply.

“Do you think the perp who attacked her yesterday was involved in your murder?”

“Not likely. He’s just some low-life rapist.”

“You don’t find that awfully coincidental?”

“Not considering the neighborhood that she was hiding out in.”

“If you’re here, who’s watching her?”

“I told you, she’s somewhere safe. Nobody needs to watch her.”

“This girl hid out for six months, and you don’t think she’ll run off the first chance she gets?”

“She’s not going anywhere.”

“You need to do this by the book, Chris,” he warns and I don’t like his tone.

“Yesterday, you were ready to scrap this whole case. You let me handle it,” I scoff.
