“Quit lying,” he said.

I felt the force of those words shake me to the core. I didn’t want to hold back. I couldn’t.

I was worried about what this meant for me anyway. If I didn’t tell him now, I would only feel worse over time.

I sighed, pulling back. “Fine, you win. I’ll tell you everything. I’m just a little bit worried about the implications of this, that’s all.”

If I told Aaron, what would the other person say? Would they tell me via text that they knew? Or did they not know that information s of yet?

There were so many things I still didn’t understand, and a lot of things that were under wraps.

We went over to the couch, the one we sat on the night of, well…that incident. As we sat there, I pushed my hands together and moved my legs around. I couldn’t stop fidgeting.

He locked eyes with me and then touched my shoulders. “McKenzie, you don’t have to do this alone.”

“I know, but I’m worried about telling you. It’s been bothering me for a bit,” I admitted.

“I know. But show me what’s been going on,” he insisted.

Would it be right? If I told him, things could get worse. If I did, it could spell trouble for both of us. But I couldn’t resist those soft eyes and the way that he looked at me.

Every time Aaron did, I struggled to hold back. I wanted him to continue to look at me like this, to show me that he cared and to prove his feelings to me.

With hesitation, I opened up my phone. From the look on Aaron’s face, I knew he would step at the moment that he had a chance. I didn’t blame him either.

He was a strong protector, a man that actively cared about me, and someone whom I enjoyed just as much as he did. I wanted nothing more than to just tell him everything.

“All right, here’s what I found out. It’s a little bit weird, but I can’t keep hiding it from you,” I said.

I showed him the texts, looking him in the eyes, and I knew that from the stuff I did show him, he was not too happy about this.

But he didn’t react. Instead, he calmly sat there and looked them over, determining what to do next about all of this.

Chapter 14: Aaron

Thoseweresome…strangetexts.McKenzie showed me. I could see the fear in her eyes. She wanted to for so long. The little dark circles that appeared there told me everything.

She was worried, and frankly, I didn’t blame her. It was apparent this had her a little bit spooked.

The messages read like blind threats. Most of them didn’t even seem that bad.

I pored over them and looked at McKenzie. “Do you know the sender on any of these?”

She shook her head. “No, I don’t. I’ve been looking for the sender for a minute, but I can’t trace them back. Not to mention, it’s kind of weird how they seem to know about us.”

They didn’t know jack shit.

I laughed. “I don’t think they do. See, look here.”

I pointed to one of the other messages. “They assume that you and I are out dating. We’re not. This is probably just some jealous broad who saw the two of us working together.”

There was no way in hell it could be anyone threatening. So, I made sure nobody found out about our relationship. I tried to keep everything hidden as best as possible, no matter what happened next.

“Are you sure, though? It’s just so weird to me that things would occur like this. I mean, I always thought that people who did this type of that shit did it because they knew the other person, and this could be used as leverage,” she explained.

I shook my head. “Nope, that’s not always the case, McKenzie. All of these messages just seem like a blind threat. I know that you’re worried about it, but you’ve got to trust me. If this continues though, let me know. I can have a couple of my security guys trace the numbers, and we can put a stop to it.”

I had a security team for a reason. My cybersecurity team knew how to track every IP out there, and also many major numbers and such. They could even get through the firewalls and other protective barriers that were put up.
