She shook her head. “That’s not what I’m here for. Aaron, before I was abducted, something happened. Something that I wanted to tell you sooner.”

My face grew curious. I needed to know the answers.

“What’s the matter? If you want, we can talk it out together. If I said anything that might’ve offended you, I’m sorry and—”

“No. That’s not it, Aaron. The truth is…it’s different from that. I’ve wanted to tell you for a little while,” she admitted.

I had no idea what she was getting at.

“So, what is it? I’m not mad. I just want to know,” I insisted.

She turned to me and bit her lip. The fear in her eyes made me wonder if I did anything wrong.

“I’m…I’m pregnant.”

My eyes widened. I couldn’t believe this.

“I’m sorry. You’re serious about this, right?’ I inquired.

“Yes. I’m pregnant, and the child is yours,” she spat out.

I couldn’t believe the words I was hearing. This was crazy! I touched her face, and I beamed.

“Wow, so I’m going to be a dad. I haven’t had that experience for a while,” I said.

She turned away, but then, I pulled her head back and caressed her face.

“What makes you think I’m mad? I knew what I was doing. I knew that, if we kept things going the way that we did, we’d eventually have to worry about this,” I told her.

“I know but—”

“And I’m not going to turn away, McKenzie. I want to be a part of your life. I want to be happy, and I want to raise them with you. You’re the love of my life. And well…I’ve always wanted another child. Unfortunately, Natalie couldn’t give that to me. It wasn’t her fault, fate just didn’t give us that opportunity,” I explained.

McKenzie’s face didn’t change. I guess she heard about that from Emily. I then moved downwards.

“I love you so much. I want to raise them with you. I want to be a part of your life, and the baby’s life. Forever,” I said.

She listened to me, and I could see the surprise, but also the relief in her eyes.

“Thank you, Aaron. This is the best thing that you’ve said to me,” she said.

I laughed.

“I’m surprised. I didn’t know that the standards were that low,” I said with a teasing grin.

She rolled her eyes. “Anyways, are you sure about this? Are you sure about…us?”

I nodded. “Damn sure. I love you a lot, McKenzie, and I want nothing more than to spend my life being the best father to our child, and also, the best man to you.”

I pulled her close, and then, our lips touched.

It was a chaste kiss, and for a moment, I didn’t know what to do, or what to say. But I couldn’t get enough of her sweet lips. Holding her here, feeling her hips which grew fuller since the pregnancy, made my heart race and my body ache for her.

She pulled back and looked into my eyes with a doubtful glance.

“This isn’t a problem, right? I don’t want it to be a problem and—”

I pushed her down on the leather sofa and brushed my lips against hers hard. She gasped, and I pulled back, smiling.
